Primary objective
Provide support in the development and implementation of department financial policy to support sound finance
governance practice.

Context statement
The Finance Systems and Innovation team is responsible for providing high-quality financial support services to the
Department, including support government schools in urban and remote locations. The services include the development of
policy and governance, resource development, delivery of training, streamlining administrative processes, monitoring, and
reporting performance. Clients include but are not limited to principals and administration staff of schools, corporate staff,
and related external stakeholders. The priorities and activities undertaken by the section are varied and change according to
Department of Education and Training needs.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Support the effective day to day workflow of financial policy, procedure development and publication, including quality

assurance, cross policy maintenance and legislative alignment.
2. Prepare and contribute to project and policy documentation, ministerial briefings, strategic reporting and general

departmental correspondence in a timely manner, using effective research and evidence based approaches
3. Provide support and advice to the business teams to facilitate the development and implementation of agency strategies,

policy, change management and business relationship activities.
4. Support the development and maintenance of collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure

efficient and effective responses to issues.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to research complex policy issues, collate information, and prepare documentation with

recommendations for management.
2. Sound written and oral communication skills, including ability to clearly articulate in plain language and with high attention

to detail for a range of government policy documents, briefings and correspondence.
3. Demonstrated understanding on relevant department legislation and application of Australian Writing Standards.
4. Demonstrated experience working to tight deadlines, using sound project management and organisational skills to

prioritise workload.
5. Demonstrated ability to work with autonomy and accountability, along with the ability to function effectively as part of a

team.
6. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective networks with a range of internal and external stakeholders and

interact effectively with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
7. Demonstrated experience in the use of Microsoft Office suite including Teams, Word, Excel, OneNote, Project and Visio.

Desirable
1. Certificate in project management.
2. Current Working with Children Card or capacity to obtain one.
