Primary objective
As a member of Teaching and Learning Services you will lead the Systemic Assessment team and provide highly specialised advice
and leadership at a system level in relation to the deliver and analysis of systemic assessment data and building of reporting
capabilities across all phases of schooling within the Northern Territory.
Context statement
Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) provides evidence-based differentiated services and support to schools to maximise
outcomes for Territory children and young people. Our services encompass quality teaching and learning, national and systemic
assessment, transition to boarding school support and policy coordination. TLS also plays a strategic role in implementing
government priorities, offering expert advice to the Minister for Education and Training and the department’s senior executives.
We enhance our work by actively engaging with a broad range of stakeholders to ensure best outcomes for all our clients.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead and facilitate the provision of system wide professional support and education services relevant to the administration
of systemic assessment and reporting across the NT and building data literacy capability, including the analysis of school
and student level data.
2. Provide high level advice to the Department of Education and Training executive officers and other relevant stakeholders
in the NT about systemic assessment and reporting specific to the NT context.
3. Develop and maintain comprehensive relationships within the Department of Education and Training, and with other
sectors, agencies and stakeholders in the NT and interstate to support the development and application of systemic
assessments so that they meet the needs of the NT education context.
4. Use contemporary teaching knowledge and experience in systemic assessment to inform and deliver procurement,
maintenance and monitoring of support contracts and successfully deliver systemic assessment and reporting requirements
for the NT.
5. Lead a professional team to resolve complex, competing priorities, using skills in program and project management,
planning, policy development, and human resource management
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Experience providing leadership in an education environment and demonstrated ability to manage a professional team to
deliver on a wide range of complex educational issues and competing priorities concurrently.
2. Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of current NT curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and reporting policies and
practices across all phases of schooling from Transition to Year 12.
3. Proven experience in leading and delivering professional learning for educators in NT school contexts, with a particular
focus on empowering school leaders to administer NT assessments, enhancing analysis of student data to inform teaching
and learning, and the use of data to inform strategic school improvement.
4. Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate, negotiate and build effective networks with
stakeholders and interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
5. Demonstrated high level data literacy, written and oral skills including the preparation of high-level correspondence and
presentations and highly developed ICT skills for effective communication, records management, professional learning
development and other work-related tasks.
6. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional integrity.
Further information
The selected applicant must hold full Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory (TRB). Current NT
Working with Children Notice (Ochre Card) and Driver’s licence or the ability to obtain prior to commencement. This role may
involve travelling to remote NT schools at different times for short periods.
