About the role

As an Accountant at Simaco Partners Pty Ltd, you will support the preparation of tax, accounting and compliance work for a range of clients under the guidance of senior team members. You will assist with preparing financial statements, tax returns and client documentation, while developing your technical skills and understanding of taxation and accounting requirements. This role suits someone with strong attention to detail, a willingness to learn and expand their understanding and who has the ability to work collaboratively in a professional practice environment.

Key responsibilities

Assisting in preparing financial statements for presentation to clients and relevant stakeholders.
Preparing documents (including advice) that support financial and taxation advice to clients on business structures, plans and operations.
Preparing tax returns (and associated financials and BAS / FBT returns) for individuals and organisations, including companies, SMSFs, partnerships and trusts.
Introducing and maintaining accounting systems for clients (e.g. Xero and Quickbooks) and advising on the selection and application of computer-based accounting systems.
Assisting in bookkeeping, wages and associated works as required.
Maintaining internal control systems, including WIP, client renewal, engagement and invoicing programs.
Preparing tax return documentation and collating client information.
Managing and monitoring the tax lodgment program, including outstanding client information, ATO correspondence and escalation of delayed or complex matters.
Reviewing Notices of Assessment, tax assessments and ATO correspondence where technical judgement or client follow-up is required.
Providing technical support to the Client Services & Administration Officer on tax administration, ASIC-related accounting issues, engagement scope queries and client documentation requirements.

About you

Bachelor's degree in accounting, with eligibility to start studying for CA preferred if not commenced or nearing commencement.
Minimum of 1 year of experience in tax accounting or a similar accounting practice environment (min 2 years preferred).
Reasonable knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory requirements.
Applicants must have the right to work in Australia.
Proficiency in accounting software programs such as Xero, BGL, MYOB, QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills with a proactive drive to learn more and succeed.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Rights to work in Australia (given the nature of the role, it will commence office based).
