We are looking for a skilled Tax Accountant who is confident with Xero, payroll processing, and Australian tax legislation.
Role Overview
The Tax Accountant will be responsible for preparing and reviewing tax returns, managing payroll for clients, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with current ATO requirements. This role suits someone who is detail‑oriented, proactive, and comfortable working across multiple client files.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and lodge individual, partnership, company, and trust tax returns
- Process payroll, including STP reporting, superannuation, and employee entitlements
- Manage BAS, IAS, GST, PAYG and other compliance obligations
- Maintain and reconcile accounts using Xero (including Xero Payroll and Xero Practice Manager if applicable)
- Assist with tax planning, advisory work, and client queries
- Ensure compliance with current Australian tax legislation and ATO guidelines
- Prepare financial statements and management reports
- Communicate with clients in a professional and timely manner
- Support the team with ad‑hoc accounting and administrative tasks
Skills & Experience
- Minimum 2–3 years experience in public practice accounting
- Strong proficiency in Xero (including Xero Payroll)
- Solid understanding of Australian tax legislation and compliance requirements
- Experience preparing tax returns and BAS for a range of entity types
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to build client relationships
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting or related field
- CPA/CA qualified or working towards (preferred but not essential)
