Position Summary
The management accountant will be responsible for delivering accurate, timely financial management and reporting to support the ongoing growth and operational needs of our scrap metal recycling business. This role will combine compliance-focused accounting duties with strategic financial analysis, budgeting, and performance monitoring to ensure strong financial controls and business sustainability. The successful candidate will apply professional accounting expertise to complex transactional environments, including variable commodity pricing and supply chain cost flows.
Key Responsibilities
· Prepare and present monthly financial statements, budgets, and forecasts for directors and management, supporting effective planning and decision-making
· Assist in developing and implementing budgetary, accounting, and internal control policies to ensure strong financial governance and compliance
· Analyse financial performance by monitoring operating costs, income, expenditure, and cash flow, including variance analysis, cost control, and risk assessment of capital investments
· Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, maintaining compliance with statutory and taxation requirements (including GST, PAYG withholding, payroll tax, and FBT where applicable)
· Coordinate with external taxation advisors to support BAS preparation and lodgements, annual tax returns, and year-end financial statements
· Maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger management, reconciliations, and journal entries
· Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely processing of supplier payments and customer invoicing
· Perform regular bank, stock, and inventory reconciliations, including specialised reconciliation of inventory by weight and value where required
· Implement and maintain accounting systems and processes, including advising on appropriate technology solutions to enhance efficiency
· Liaise with financial institutions, brokers, and other external stakeholders to manage funding arrangements and ensure integrated financial operations
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce.
- CPA/CA qualifications highly regarded.
- Demonstrated experience in general accounting functions, preferably within manufacturing, recycling, logistics, or commodities-based industries.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., MYOB, Xero, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong understanding of Australian accounting standards, taxation requirements, and compliance obligations.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills.
- Attention to detail combined with the ability to prioritise tasks in a high-volume transactional environment.
Desirable Attributes
- Experience with inventory valuation and cost accounting, particularly in bulk-weight goods.
- Familiarity with industry regulatory reporting requirements specific to recycling, environmental reporting or hazardous goods handling.
- Strong communication skills to present financial insights to non-financial stakeholders.

Pay: $97,000.00 – $120,000.00 per year
