TaxSmart Café is a Melbourne CBD financial services firm committed to educating and empowering individuals and business owners to manage their finances with clarity and confidence.

About the Role

A Tax accountant is a vital position in any business, especially in the accounting business. This is a full-time position for a skilled and experienced person, who should lead their own team, manage their client’s relationship and ensure financial and operational efficiency while working with their own clients.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare tax returns, financial statements, and business activity statements (BAS) at required intervals.
Prepare income tax returns for individuals, trusts, SMSFs, and companies, as well as relevant documents as requested.
Advise clients on legal tax minimisation strategies.
Create and return statements and documents to clients within set deadlines.
Liaise with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and other regulatory bodies, as required.
Engage with clients regularly and maintain strong relationships.
Assist with SMSF-related activities such as setup and audits.
Set up company registrations.
Manage payroll for clients.
Stay on top of client receivables, ensuring timely collections.
Regularly review systems and processes, implementing improvements as necessary.
Ensure compliance with tax laws, statutory regulations, internal processes, and company policies in all tasks.
Possess a strong knowledge of the financial landscape and market trends.
Exercise care and diligence when carrying out roles and activities.
Continuously learn and share knowledge within the organisation.
Understand and embody the firm’s vision, mission, and core values.
Perform any other roles assigned by the Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, or Company Executives.

Eligibility Requirements:

At least a bachelor’s or higher degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
At least 1 year of experience in a similar role.
Professional certifications such as Institute of public Accountants (IPA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) are additional benefits.
Interpret complex tax laws and financial statements accurately.
Proficiency in advanced tax software (e.g., QuickBooks, XERO, Excel) and data analysis tools.

Other Skills:

Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and up-to-date knowledge of tax codes are additional skills.
A solid understanding of numerical proficiency is required to perform accurate calculations.
Effective communication skills are necessary to explain tax-related concepts clearly to clients.
Project management skills help manage multiple clients and deadlines, while negotiation skills are essential for resolving tax disputes.

Salary - $77,000 plus super
