Primary objective
This position works directly with industry to provide oversight, support and build capability to establish partnerships that
result in employment of school leavers across the NT. This position will also provide strategic policy advice and high-level
reporting, data analysis and project management in the design, development and implementation of career education
initiatives for Northern Territory secondary students, ensuring alignment to the departments Strategic Plan 2025-2028 and
the NTG Rebuilding the Economy Strategy.

Context statement
The Skills NT work unit is responsible for building a skilled and capable Northern Territory workforce by providing leadership,
resources and strategic oversight of vocational education and training (VET). As the Northern Territory’s state training
authority, Skills NT provides stewardship of the national VET framework, system, and apprenticeships, ensuring they are
effectively implemented to meet local needs. Through strong partnerships with industry, community organisations and
registered training organisations, Skills NT supports access to high-quality training that leads to meaningful employment
outcomes and responds to current and future workforce demand across the Territory.

Key duties and responsibilities
The role focuses on building strong partnerships across government, industry, training providers and schools; leading and
managing staff; implementing strategies for Careers Education, training and industry pathways; analysing data to inform
policy and improvement; promoting industry pathways and employment options; guiding stakeholder groups and new
initiatives; overseeing business planning and resource management; maintaining current industry and workforce knowledge;
and collaborating with stakeholders to expand post-school opportunities for students.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability in brokering and maintaining collective partnerships and strategic alliances with industry and

training providers, school principals and other relevant stakeholders to promote employment pathways and career
options for students.

2. Proven leadership skills in developing and planning industry and other stakeholder reference groups, and to facilitate the
introduction of new initiatives in relation to Industry Pathways and Careers support in schools.

3. Experience in establishing and maintaining a network of stakeholders and online resources to ensure current and relevant
knowledge of industry, employment, and workforce trends, to enable quality career guidance in schools.

4. Experience in managing staff, including regionally based staff to ensure a high quality and equitable service is provided
to schools and other relevant stakeholders.

5. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with people
from diverse professional, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, which includes ethnic, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
peoples.

Desirable
1. Bachelors degree in Business or Project Management
2. Certificate IV or Graduate Certificate in Career Development
