Primary objective
Provide leadership, strategic advice and assistance on governance, risk management and audit functions to the Chief Executive
Officer, agency Executives, Senior Managers and committees established as part of the agency’s Corporate Governance structures.
Context statement
The Strategic Services, Governance and Risk Unit delivers high-quality, timely strategic policy advice and research services that
support the agency’s objectives and strategic priorities. The unit plays a key role in ensuring robust governance systems are
established, maintained, and continuously improved. In addition, the unit provides expert business advisory and consultancy
services across a range of critical functions, including workforce and risk management, corporate policy development, work health
and safety, facility management, strategic projects and the operation of governance committees.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Oversee the complex and confidential tasks related to the risk and audit portfolio within the Strategic Services unit.
2. Provide high quality, evidence-based advice and support to effectively manage the output and outcomes of Risk and Audit
accountabilities.
3. Identify emerging issues and initiate appropriate actions, including undertaking any necessary research.
4. Undertake complex and sensitive investigations and report findings to the Chief Executive Officer and agency Executives.
5. Provide secretariat services for the Risk and Audit Committee meetings; arranging meetings, taking minutes, compiling highly
sensitive and confidential papers and engaging with members to ensure action items are progressed.
6. Assist in the development, delivery and maintenance of the department’s strategic risk register.
7. Support the Director as required on a range of projects for the Strategic Services, Governance and Risk Unit.
8. Provide advice to divisions in the delivery of risk and audit data to ensure compliance with department reporting protocols.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated high-level experience in conducting audits, reviews, inspections, monitoring compliance, and developing
subsequent reports and recommendations to senior management.
2. Demonstrated high-level experience in policy and research, analysis, development, evaluation, and innovative thinking,
including high level conceptual and analysis skills in dealing with complex policy issues and delivering clear and considered
advice.
3. Demonstrated high-level written and oral communication skills and ability to meet the requirements of a wide range of
audiences.
4. Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage with staff, unions, and managers to influence change.
5. Demonstrated understanding of emerging risks impacting on the agency, the NT and nationally within government
management contexts.
6. Demonstrated experience in managing sensitive and confidential information.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications relevant to the position or sound experience in a similar position.
2. Sound knowledge of the agency, including its statutory and corporate responsibilities.
