Primary objective
Provide high-level project management, policy development, and strategic coordination to support the Department of Corrections’
response to domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV). The role contributes to the implementation of the Northern Territory DFSV
Reduction Strategy by coordinating project activities, monitoring progress, and delivering evidence-based policy advice to strengthen
DFSV responses across Rehabilitation and Reintegration and the broader agency.
Context statement
The Rehabilitation and Reintegration division delivers programs and services that support behaviour change, rehabilitation and successful
reintegration of offenders into the community. The DFSV Project Officer operates within the Targeted Intervention unit and works closely
with the Principal DFSV Project Lead and a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. The role contributes to cross-agency
coordination, policy development, and project delivery to reduce the risk of harm and improve outcomes for victims and perpetrators of
DFSV.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Support the implementation and monitoring of initiatives under the Northern Territory DFSV Reduction Strategy and related
frameworks, including the Risk Assessment and Management Framework (RAMF).
2. Manage and coordinate complex DFSV-related projects, including planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting,
ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and governance requirements.
3. Develop, review and provide strategic advice on DFSV policies, procedures and initiatives to ensure compliance with legislation, best
practice and emerging trends.
4. Undertake research, data analysis and evidence gathering to inform policy development, program design and continuous improvement
activities.
5. Prepare high-quality written materials including briefings, submissions, reports and correspondence for senior executives, stakeholders
and government processes.
6. Build and maintain effective relationships with internal business units, other government agencies, and non-government organisations
to support coordinated DFSV responses and shared initiatives.
7. Support the development and implementation of initiatives that improve service delivery and responses to DFSV within correctional
settings, including training and workforce capability development.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in project management, including planning, coordination, delivery and evaluation of complex projects.
2. High-level research, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop evidence-based policy advice.
3. Excellent written communication skills, including experience preparing briefings, reports, submissions and correspondence for senior
stakeholders.
4. Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
5. Demonstrated understanding of domestic, family and sexual violence issues, policy frameworks and service delivery contexts, or the
ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.
6. Proven ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines in a complex environment.
7. Understanding of culturally responsive practice, particularly in relation to Aboriginal people and communities.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as public policy, social sciences, criminology, or project management.
2. Knowledge of Northern Territory DFSV frameworks, legislation and services.
