Primary objective
Provide sound advice, confidential, high level executive, administrative, coordination and project support to the Executive
Director Health Protection and the Health Protection Branch whilst operating within legislative, public policy and regulatory
frameworks.
Context statement
The Senior Administration Officer provides high level administration services to facilitate service delivery to businesses,
clients, Government agencies and associated organisations across the Northern Territory. Health Protection has extensive
statutory functions under NT legislation and consists of the Environmental Strategy Unit, Environmental Health Operations,
Remote Stores Licensing, Radiation Protection and Medicines and Poisons Units.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high level business support and advice to the Executive Director Health Protection and Branch Directors ice
delivery matters to ensure all program deliverables and defined expectations are achieved.
2. Coordinate the administrative functions of the Branch and manage the data collection systems and storage of data to
enable effective and timely extraction, analysis and preparation of corporate reports.
3. Establish and maintain strong working relationships, fostering a partnership culture with key internal and external
stakeholders.
4. Organise meetings and provide high level secretarial support with external stakeholders and Government departments.
5. Work across NTG systems to support the administration, reporting and project work of the team.
6. Assist the development of documentation to support administrative functions of the team, this may include Ministerials,
memoranda, recruitment reports and other correspondence.
7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated high level project management and organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure, manage
changing and competing tasks and priorities within required time frames while maintaining a high level of attention to
detail.
2. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write in plain English for a variety of audiences
and experience in preparing reports, briefings and correspondence across a number of software packages.
3. Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to establish and sustain working
relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including people of diverse cultures.
4. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, negotiation, ability to think critically, analyse complex administration and
governance issues in order to establish and maintain strong productive working relationships.
5. Proven ability to be self-motivated, work independently and as a member of a team to achieve outcomes within tight
timeframes, with high standards, confidentiality and attention to detail.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications or significant experience in a relevant field.
2. Experience operating within the public sector and applying governance structures.
