Located below the Chemist Warehouse Head Office in Preston, Albert's Basement Café is a vibrant café serving fresh, high-quality meals and exceptional coffee to our head office employees and visitors.

At Albert's Basement Café, we're passionate about great food, genuine hospitality, and creating an experience that keeps our customers coming back. Our kitchen is fast-paced, collaborative, and committed to delivering consistently delicious seasonal dishes made with care.

We're looking for a passionate and motivated Chef to join our team and help continue delivering the quality and service we're known for.

About the Role

As our Chef, you'll play a key role in the day-to-day operation of the café kitchen. You'll be responsible for preparing fresh, high-quality meals, leading the kitchen team, and ensuring our menu is delivered to a consistently high standard.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a busy café environment, takes pride in producing quality food, and is looking for a stable Monday to Friday role with a supportive team.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and cook fresh, high-quality meals in line with our seasonal café menu.
Design and contribute to seasonal menus and daily specials.
Lead and support the kitchen team to deliver exceptional food and service.
Ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the kitchen.
Produce, organise and follow daily preparation schedules.
Monitor stock levels, place orders, and minimise food waste.
Maintain high standards of food presentation, quality, and consistency.
Ensure the kitchen remains clean, organised, and compliant with all food safety and hygiene regulations.
Work closely with the front-of-house team to provide an outstanding customer experience.
Foster a positive, collaborative, and safety-focused kitchen culture.

About You

You're a passionate chef who enjoys creating fresh, quality food and thrives in a fast-paced kitchen. You're a natural team player who leads by example and takes pride in maintaining high standards.

To be successful in this role, you'll have:

A minimum of 2 years' experience working in a busy commercial kitchen or café.
Previous experience leading or mentoring kitchen staff.
A passion for fresh, seasonal food and creating memorable dining experiences.
Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise during busy service periods.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
A proactive, solutions-focused approach and a positive attitude.
A sound understanding of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen compliance requirements.
Relevant chef qualifications and Food Safety certification (or equivalent).
