Financial Accountant - Tax and Compliance

About the Role:
Reporting to: Financial Controller – Financial accounting
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Work Location: South Wharf, Melbourne
As a Financial Accountant - Tax & Compliance, you will be responsible for managing tax compliance and financial accounting activities across designated entities, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of corporate tax, FBT, BAS/GST, PAYG and other statutory obligations. The role will work closely with external tax advisors and internal Finance stakeholders on tax calculations, provisions, reconciliations, transfer pricing and other tax matters, while maintaining compliance registers and reporting requirements. It will also provide broader financial accounting and compliance support, including statutory reporting, balance sheet reconciliations and ad hoc support to senior Finance leaders.
The role and responsibilities will include:
Prepare and lodge GST/VAT, BAS, FBT and other recurring tax compliance requirements, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
Support annual tax returns, Transfer Pricing, CFC, Freight Tax and other tax matters, liaising with external tax advisors and responding to queries.
Prepare monthly and quarterly group reporting packages, including BEPS Pillar Two and Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR) schedules.
Support statutory financial statements, tax-related disclosures and other compliance reporting, including Payment Times Reporting.
Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and support the Tax Manager and Financial Controller with financial accounting activities.
Maintain compliance with finance and tax policies, internal controls and OH&S requirements, while contributing to continuous improvement of processes and procedures.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
Degree in Accounting, with CPA/CA or another professional accounting qualification highly desirable.
5–7 years’ relevant experience, including at least 4 years across corporate tax, financial accounting, reporting, GST/VAT or related areas, preferably within a multinational environment.
Advanced Excel and strong spreadsheet skills, with exposure to ERP systems such as SAP and BI reporting tools.
Experience in shipping, freight forwarding or transport is preferred.
Strong attention to detail, numeracy, organisation and ability to manage compliance deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
High integrity, strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently and effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
