In this role, you'll:
Transport for NSW is seeking five experienced DRIVES Tech Leads to play a key role in the delivery, support, and ongoing evolution of the DRIVES Vehicle platform, one of the organisation's most critical regulatory technology environments.
These are fixed-term contract opportunities through to 30 June 2030, offering the opportunity to contribute to long-term digital transformation initiatives that support vehicle registration, compliance, and regulatory services across NSW.
As a DRIVES Tech Lead, you will provide technical leadership across software development, application support, and continuous improvement activities, ensuring solutions remain reliable, secure, scalable, and aligned with business objectives.
Working within a complex and highly integrated environment, you will lead technical delivery across the full software development lifecycle, partnering with business stakeholders, architects, developers, testers, and delivery teams to deliver high-quality technology solutions.
You will:
Provide technical leadership and expertise across software delivery and production support activities.
Lead the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of applications supporting the DRIVES Vehicle platform.
Translate functional and non-functional business requirements into robust technical designs and system specifications.
Drive software quality through development standards, design reviews, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Conduct verification, debugging, testing, and issue resolution activities to ensure stable and reliable software performance.
Support application releases, deployments, upgrades, and ongoing system enhancements.
Maintain system documentation, defect tracking, and technical artefacts to ensure compliance with quality standards.
Provide technical advice and support to a broad range of business and technology stakeholders.
Mentor team members and contribute to technical capability uplift across the broader team.
Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve existing systems, platforms, and delivery approaches.
This role offers the opportunity to work on technology platforms that directly support licensing, vehicle registration, compliance, and regulatory services relied upon by millions of people across NSW.

About you
You are an experienced Technical Lead, Senior Developer, Lead Engineer, or Application Specialist with a strong track record delivering enterprise software solutions within large and complex organisations.
You combine strong technical capability with leadership skills and are comfortable operating across both project delivery and operational support environments.
You will bring:
Demonstrated experience delivering software solutions and technology projects within large-scale enterprise environments.
Strong experience across the software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and support.
Proven technical leadership capability, including mentoring developers and influencing technical outcomes.
Experience translating business requirements into effective software solutions and technical specifications.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with experience resolving complex technical challenges.
Experience supporting production applications, releases, upgrades, and ongoing platform enhancements.
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
A commitment to technical excellence, continuous improvement, and customer-focused outcomes.
