About the Opportunity
As our Canvas Technical Lead, you'll be the technical authority for Torrens University's Canvas LMS ecosystem, leading the architecture, integration and continuous evolution of one of our most critical digital learning platforms.
Working closely with technology, academic and operational stakeholders, you'll design secure, scalable solutions that enhance the experience of students and educators while helping shape the future of digital learning. You'll also play a key role in delivering AI-enabled learning technologies, mentoring developers and influencing the University's Canvas roadmap and broader technology strategy.
This is a hands-on Technical Lead role suited to someone who enjoys remaining close to the code while providing technical leadership across a collaborative development team.

What You'll Do
In this role, you'll:
Lead the architecture, design and delivery of enterprise Canvas LMS solutions and integrations.
Design and develop LTI 1.3/Advantage integrations, custom Canvas tools and embedded learning applications.
Build secure, scalable integrations using REST APIs, webhooks and event-driven architectures.
Drive platform performance, security, reliability and scalability across the Canvas ecosystem.
Provide technical leadership through mentoring, code reviews and software development lifecycle governance.
Partner with academic, operational and technology stakeholders to design innovative digital learning solutions.
Champion continuous improvement by evaluating emerging technologies and advancing the University's AI-enabled learning ecosystem.
About you
Essential:
8+ years' commercial software development experience
Strong experience with Canvas LMS, APIs and LTI integrations
Experience in full-stack development
Expertise in REST APIs, microservices and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP)
Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks
Backend development experience (Node.js, Java or Python)
Knowledge of OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SAML and SSO
Strong technical leadership, stakeholder engagement and mentoring skills.
Desirable:
Experience with learning technologies or higher education
Experience with WebSockets or event-driven architectures
Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases
Experience designing secure, scalable enterprise integrations

This is a permanent full-time role with hybrid flexibility. While our preference is for the successful candidate to be based at our Surry Hills campus in Sydney, we are also open to candidates based near our Melbourne, Adelaide or Brisbane campuses.
