What’s the job?
The Full Stack Tech Lead is responsible for leading the design, development, and delivery of modern digital platforms across the organisation. This role combines deep hands-on engineering expertise across front-end and back-end technologies with strong leadership capability, ensuring scalable, secure, and high-quality solutions aligned with business and enterprise architecture objectives.
Operating within the university’s digital ecosystem, the role will drive full stack solution architecture and guide development practices across web, mobile, and integrated platforms, including CRM systems, learning management systems (LMS), and cloud-native services.
Principal accountabilities include (but are not limited to):
Establish and govern full stack engineering standards, architecture patterns, development frameworks, and secure coding practices across front-end, back-end, API, integration, data, and cloud platforms. Provide technical leadership through code reviews, design reviews, mentoring, and engineering governance.
Lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable, secure, and high-performing digital applications across web, mobile, and customer-facing platforms. Maintain hands-on involvement in complex technical solutions, critical development activities, and production issue resolution.
Own end-to-end solution architecture for digital platforms, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity requirements, data governance standards, and business objectives. Define technology roadmaps and architectural strategies that support long-term platform scalability and maintainability.
Design and oversee integration architectures and API ecosystems, enabling seamless connectivity between digital platforms, CRM, LMS, student systems, identity services, data platforms, and third-party applications through RESTful APIs, event-driven architectures, and modern integration patterns.
Champion cloud-native engineering practices, DevOps culture, and platform automation, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, containerisation, automated testing, observability, monitoring, and operational resilience.
8+ years of experience in full stack software development within enterprise or digital environments
Demonstrated experience in a technical leadership or lead role, including mentoring and guiding development teams
Experience in full stack development using React, Java, Node.js, and .NET
Experience designing and building RESTful APIs, GraphQL and microservices architectures
Proven experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP) and cloud-native development
Experience with DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and automated testing
Familiarity with containerisation technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
This is a full-time permanent role with hybrid flexibility and based at our Surry Hills Campus in Sydney. Candidates must have full, ongoing working rights in Australia. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
