Your role
The NSW Government is determined to make NSW a place where everyone has access to safe and secure housing, and where experiences of homelessness are rare, brief and non-recurring.
Homes NSW is a division of the Department of Communities and Justice. It brings together the housing and homelessness functions of the Department of Communities and Justice, the NSW Land and Housing Corporation, Aboriginal Housing Office and key worker housing functions from across government all under one roof.
Homes NSW leads work to deliver more social and affordable housing, end the cycle of homelessness, and deliver quality public housing to our 262,000 tenants across NSW.
Lead and direct complex policy, strategy and reform initiatives with a focus either on housing strategy or youth homelessness, provide high-level authoritative advice to senior leaders, manage resources and staff, and influence stakeholder outcomes to achieve Homes NSW strategic objectives.
What you’ll do
- Drive implementation of strategic reform initiatives through a project management approach to scoping and planning.
- Provide leadership to effectively manage the business unit in a manner consistent with the strategic direction of the organisation and maintain an outcome-oriented culture of teamwork, achievement and accountability.
- Provide proactive and evidence-based expert advice and reports to senior leaders to ensure the business unit’s matters that impact current business and future decision-making are fully considered.
- Lead through influence and actively manage key internal and external stakeholder relationships to support achievement of Homes NSW’s strategic objectives.
- Lead and drive team management, work planning, coaching and professional development initiatives to align resources and deliver priorities.
- Manage resources, budgets, projects and staffing to maximise achievement of goals and to ensure staff have the required levels of skills and performance.
- Ensure effective operations and cost-effective use of organisation’s resources.
Provide guidance, support and point of contact for staff in the business unit on DCJ policies and procedures that impact on the operation of the business unit.
What we’re looking for
- Demonstrated experience leading complex policy, strategy or reform initiatives within government, housing, human services or comparable sectors, including delivery across multiple workstreams.
- Demonstrated experience in policy development, strategic advisory or delivery of large-scale programs or reforms within complex organisational or government environments.
- Strong understanding of, and ability to apply, policy and system-level thinking within housing, homelessness or related service systems, or demonstrated transferable experience in similarly complex policy or reform contexts.
- Demonstrated experience engaging and influencing diverse stakeholders, including government, delivery partners and/or sector representatives, to achieve strategic outcomes.
- Knowledge of legislation, government processes and policy frameworks relevant to public sector service delivery or demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislative and policy frameworks in comparable environments.
- National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014
