Primary objective
Provide strategic program coordination, assurance and leadership across the Department’s responsibilities under identified funding
agreements with the Australian Government, ensuring effective implementation, risk management, stakeholder engagement and
high-quality reporting to meet Commonwealth requirements.

Context statement
The Strategic Policy area is responsible for developing, implementing and reporting on strategic policy, including supporting good
governance across the agency. It is also responsible for developing and maintaining strategic partnerships with the Australian
Government and other Northern Territory Government departments and for overseeing resource management to ensure alignment
with strategic reform objectives.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Coordinate and support the design, development and implementation of priority strategic programs through cross-divisional,

interagency, national and community consultation.
2. Lead the development and maintenance of strategic alliances and collaborative partnerships with internal and external

stakeholders to ensure projects are implemented successfully and service delivery is appropriate and reflects changing
demands.

3. Manage the collection and collation of reporting on identified strategic programs under a monitoring, evaluation, accountability
and learning framework.

4. Undertake and oversee preparation of timely, concise, and comprehensive advice for executive, including preparation of
Cabinet or Ministerial correspondence, with a focus on complex intergovernmental and social issues of relevance to the
Territory.

5. Provide professional supervision to a small, but dynamic work unit and demonstrate effective leadership that supports business
areas to achieve shared operational and strategic goals.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Superior strategic and operational management and leadership skills, with experience leading teams to focus on projects that

directly align with Government strategies.
2. Proven ability to network, build relationships, collaborate and influence to deliver strategic reform.
3. Strong strategic, conceptual and analytical ability, including experience in analysis of complex policy proposals, initiatives and

performance reports and proficiency in data analysis.
4. Superior written communication and reporting skills for the presentation of a range of complex and detailed reports and

correspondence.
5. Demonstrated commitment to flexible problem-solving approaches and the ability to work under pressure, including dealing

with changing priorities and competing deadlines.

Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in public administration, governance or similar.
2. Demonstrated experience in the areas of strategy, policy development and intergovernmental relations.
