The Shepherd Centre (TSC) is a highly regarded not-for-profit, providing specialised programs for children with hearing loss and their families. Our programs meet the needs of children of all ages; from our world-leading early intervention program for babies and toddlers, through to our mentoring program ‘Hear for You’ for school-aged children and teenagers. We have been empowering generations of children with hearing loss to listen, speak and have a voice for over 50 years, creating a world of choice and amplifying possibility.
TSC currently supports over 900 families all over Australia, providing in-person and online support from 10 locations across NSW, ACT, Queensland and Tasmania. Our global platform HearHub, supports health professionals working with children with hearing loss all over the world.
About the Role
We are seeking a Management & Systems Accountant to join The Shepherd Centre's Finance team and play a key role in supporting the accuracy, integrity and continuous improvement of our financial reporting and core finance systems.
Reporting to the Financial Controller, this role is responsible for the accuracy and integrity of TSC's month-end close, financial reporting and reconciliations, as well as the administration, integrity and continuous improvement of TSC's core finance systems, including Business Central, PracSuite and Solver. The role brings together technical financial accounting, budgeting, forecasting and management reporting, working closely with the Financial Controller to strengthen financial insight, system capability and controls across the finance team.
This is a permanent, full-time position (38 hours per week), for an experienced accountant with a strong aptitude for finance systems administration who is looking to make a meaningful contribution within a purpose-driven organisation.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Own and coordinate the month-end close process in Business Central, including income recognition, payroll and investment journals, and oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable, accruals and prepayments
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations, management reports and support board report preparation, including variance commentary, and oversee quarterly BAS lodgement
- Support the annual budget process and quarterly reforecasts, and administer the Solver budgeting/reporting platform
- Act as finance system administrator across Business Central, Dynamics CE and Solver, managing user access, permissions, system configuration and reporting
- Champion the financial aspects of the practice management software (PracSuite) and KinderM8, and identify opportunities to automate and streamline reporting and reconciliation processes
- Support Human Resources with payroll-related and compliance accounting, including employee entitlements, superannuation, salary packaging, workers compensation returns and Long Service Leave reconciliations
- Assist in the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.
- Review fortnightly payments for Financial Controller approval
- Provide finance team support and coverage for the Management & NDIS Accountant and Assistant Accountant during peak periods and leave
Essential Criteria

CPA/CA qualified, with strong technical financial accounting skills
- Demonstrated experience (5+ years) in a relevant accounting role
- Legal right to work in Australia
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (essential)
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and strong proficiency across the Microsoft 365 suite of applications
- Demonstrated system administration capability, comfortable owning user access, configuration, integrations and vendor relationships across finance platforms
- Exceptional communication, engagement and relationship-building skills, with demonstrated ability to influence non-finance leaders
- Resilient and forward-thinking, with the courage to face challenges, hold operational leaders to account on budget discipline, and find creative solutions
