This is not just a creative leadership role where you review work and present to stakeholders.

This is a hands-on, working role for a seasoned creative lead who still sits in the file. You will lead King Living's in-house Creative Studio — concepting campaigns, setting the visual language, and directing major shoots from pre-production through to final delivery. You will translate the Founder's creative vision into finished work that is precise, considered and unmistakably King Living across every market and channel.

This is the kind of role where your eye matters as much as your leadership. You will direct photographers, brief stylists, push layouts until they're right, and hold the team to a craft standard that reflects one of Australia's most design-led brands — all while owning how the studio adopts and uses AI to move faster without losing quality.

Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer and working in close daily partnership with the Head of Brand and the Founder, this is a senior role with genuine creative authority — and genuine accountability for what leaves the studio.

If you are a resilient, hands-on creative leader with an exceptional portfolio, a current craft skill set, and the ability to move between leading a team and executing work yourself — this is the role built for you.

What You Will Own

Translating the Vision
Work hand in hand with the Founder and Head of Brand to interpret creative intent faithfully, give it form, and make it deliverable at pace and at scale across all eight global markets.

Hands on the Tools
Design, retouch, build layouts and produce finished artwork yourself — moving between directing the team and sitting in the file, depending on what the work needs.

Campaign Concepting & Art Direction
Lead conceptual development of campaigns from brief to execution — and art direct all major still photography shoots from pre-production through to final files.

Quality Guardianship
Review and approve all creative output leaving the studio — holding the King Living visual standard across every market and channel.

AI Ownership
Own how the studio uses AI — using tools yourself daily, setting the standards, training the team, and continuously evaluating new tools. AI must lift quality and speed without diluting craft.

Team Leadership & Workflow
Lead, mentor and develop the Creative Studio team — building a culture of craft, curiosity and continuous improvement, and partnering with the Campaign Manager on capacity planning and workflow efficiency.

Who You Are

You will likely come from a senior Art Director, Creative Director or Head of Studio role within a premium lifestyle, interiors, furniture or retail brand — with a portfolio that demonstrates campaign-level thinking, exceptional art direction, and hands-on craft executed to a high standard. What matters most is your eye, your resilience, and your ability to translate a creative vision faithfully while leading a team that trusts your direction.

You are a seasoned, hands-on creative lead who works smart, directs with clarity, delivers to excellence, and holds yourself to the same standard you hold the team to.

Minimum 8 years in graphic design or art direction, with at least 3 years leading a creative team
A current, hands-on craft skill set — expert in Adobe Creative Suite and motion design, working knowledge of Figma
Exceptional portfolio demonstrating campaign-level thinking and aspirational brand craft, ideally for a premium lifestyle, interiors or furniture brand
Demonstrated, current use of AI creative tools — able to direct and critically assess AI output, teach it to others, and show evidence of continuous learning as the tools evolve
Proven experience art directing still photography shoots for a premium lifestyle or furniture retail brand
Strong command of brand systems, typography, colour and visual communication
Experience adapting creative across multiple markets for cultural and market nuance
Resilient and steady under pressure — takes feedback and iteration as part of the work, not as a setback
Communicates and presents well, including to senior stakeholders who do not think visually
