Leadership Role – Key Worker / Support Team Lead (Disability Services) with direct support worker hours

Karalee / Ipswich Area, QLD | Female Only Role | Leadership Pathway | Disability Services | Employment Position - Salary Negotiable

Looking for a New Challenge in the Disability Sector?

We are seeking an experienced and passionate professional who has made a long-term commitment to supporting people with disability to live meaningful lives in the community.

This role is ideal for someone who is looking to transition from their current position into a unique leadership opportunity while remaining connected to direct practice and the people they support.

This position offers the opportunity to combine hands-on support, leadership development, team coordination, and service design within a highly personalised, family-governed support model.

Full training, mentoring, and organisational support will be provided.

About the Opportunity

You will initially spend approximately six months learning how to become an exceptional Support Partner to one remarkable young woman with complex support needs, while developing a deep understanding of her vision, values, routines, and support requirements.

During this period, you will work alongside an experienced team, building trusted relationships and learning the unique support model that has been developed around the participant.

As your confidence and understanding grow, you will progressively transition into a leadership position within the small support team, working collaboratively with the family and service provider to strengthen systems, mentor staff, coordinate supports, and contribute to the ongoing development of the service.

This is a rare opportunity to develop genuine leadership skills while remaining connected to direct support practice.

About the Participant

The young woman you will support is thoughtful, insightful, and deeply engaged with ideas about the world around her.

She enjoys exploring topics such as philosophy, psychology, neuroscience, social justice, and human behaviour. She values meaningful conversations, authentic relationships, curiosity, and intellectual engagement.

Some days may involve discussion, shared interests, connecting with friends, or exploring new ideas together. Other days may require a quieter presence and practical support with everyday routines.

Success in this role requires someone who can combine emotional intelligence, practical capability, professionalism, and calm leadership.

Leadership Responsibilities

As you transition into the Team Lead role, responsibilities will include:

● Working collaboratively with the family to ensure supports remain aligned with the participant’s goals, preferences, and values

● Acting as a key communication link between the family and support team

● Supporting recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and mentoring of support workers

● Assisting with roster coordination and workforce planning

● Reviewing shift documentation and supporting quality improvement

● Supporting implementation of therapeutic recommendations and strategies

● Coordinating team communication and reflective practice

● Identifying staff training needs and supporting professional development

● Monitoring outcomes and contributing to service development

● Assisting with funding reviews, evidence gathering, and reporting

Direct Support Responsibilities

Alongside leadership duties, you will continue to provide direct support by:

● Supporting daily routines and personal care

● Building meaningful connection and engagement

● Assisting with social participation and community involvement

● Supporting communication, emotional regulation, and wellbeing

● Preparing meals and supporting healthy routines

● Adapting support to changing needs, energy levels, and circumstances

● Providing a calm and grounded presence during challenging situations

Who This Role Would Suit

Hours and Commitment

● Approximately 20–25 hours per week of direct support

● 6–8 hours per week of leadership and coordination responsibilities

● Consistent availability required

● Regular weekend availability essential

● Long-term commitment preferred

● Willingness to provide occasional after-hours support for urgent roster matters

Essential Requirements

● Female only (due to personal care requirements)

● Current Driver’s Licence and reliable vehicle

● Current Police Check and Mandatory industry clearances (yellow card, blue card, etc). Hold or willing to obtain

● Strong written and verbal communication skills

● Confidence using email, shared documents, mobile applications, and calendars

● Demonstrated experience working with people with disability, complex needs, or within related human service professions
