About the Opportunity
Are you a qualified electrician looking to take the next step in your career and develop specialist skills in High Voltage (HV) systems?
Hitachi Energy is seeking a motivated Junior Field Service Technician to join our High Voltage Service team.
This role offers a structured development pathway combining hands-on field experience, mentoring from experienced HV specialists, formal technical training, and industry-recognised GIS/AIS certification programs.
Working alongside senior technicians and engineers, you will gain practical experience supporting the installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Hitachi Energy's High Voltage Switchgear portfolio, including:
- Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS)
- Air-Insulated Switchgear (AIS)
This is an excellent opportunity for an A-Grade Electrician who is safety-focused, technically curious, and keen to develop into a fully qualified High Voltage Field Service Technician.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Commissioning Support
- Assist with installation and assembly of GIS and AIS equipment
- Support pre-commissioning activities
- Assist with functional testing and energisation activities
Maintenance & Service Support
- Support routine inspections and preventative maintenance activities
- Perform visual inspections and condition assessments
- Assist with gas density monitoring and leak detection
- Support cleaning, lubrication, and mechanical adjustment activities
- Participate in breakdown response and repair activities
Technical Development
- Work under the guidance of experienced HV technicians and engineers
- Develop skills in:
- Electrical testing
- Circuit breaker analysis
- Timing and diagnostic testing
- Protection and control verification
- Fault finding and troubleshooting
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all Hitachi Energy safety policies and procedures
- Adhere to HV safety requirements and Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) processes
- Participate in Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and risk assessments
- Support environmental compliance, including SF₆ gas handling requirements
- Promote a strong safety-first and zero-harm culture
Documentation & Customer Support
- Complete service reports and maintenance records
- Record test results and technical findings accurately
- Maintain digital service and compliance documentation
- Represent Hitachi Energy professionally on customer sites
About You
Essential Requirements
- A-Grade Electrical Licence
- Strong understanding of electrical fundamentals and safe work practices
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
- Current driver's licence
- Ability to obtain required site access clearances and certifications
- Strong commitment to safety
- Willingness to travel and work on customer sites
Desirable Experience
Exposure to one or more of the following would be advantageous:
- HV substations
- Industrial electrical systems
- Switchgear or protection systems
- Utility, mining, or heavy industrial environments
- Mechanical assembly or maintenance activities
