DESCRIPTION

Amazon Logistics (AMZL) is building a world-class last mile operation in Australia. AMZL aims to exceed customer expectations by ensuring orders are delivered quickly, accurately, and cost-effectively.

The AMZL Australia Engineering team is seeking an Automation Engineer who is hands-on, detail-oriented, and customer-obsessed to support the development and improvement of control systems for Material Handling Equipment across the Australia region.

In this position, you will support the improvement of existing control systems for mechanical equipment, assist in implementing control systems for newly introduced equipment in partnership with domestic and international teams, and help ensure stable operations. These control systems include network-connected components, and the successful candidate will be expected to take ownership of assigned implementation tasks and post-implementation support, including conducting data analysis when problems occur and partnering with stakeholder departments to deliver high-quality systems.

Beyond controls engineering, you will support the automation strategy for the Australia region by evaluating new automation solutions and improving existing automation to meet safety, productivity, quality, and cost goals under the guidance of senior engineers.

This role involves regular communication with partner teams from Japan, Europe, and WW to support parallel development projects.

This role will be based in either Sydney or Melbourne. The position requires regular domestic and international travel (approximately 25% of work time).

Key job responsibilities

Implementation, testing, and troubleshooting of control systems for new Material Handling Equipment under the direction of senior engineers
Analysis, implementation, and troubleshooting of existing mechanical control systems
Support the evaluation and implementation of new automation solutions for the Australia region, including identifying opportunities to improve existing automation
Partnership with domestic and international teams for project execution, standardization, and deployment of best practices

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
2+ years of industrial engineer, operations engineer, manufacturing engineer, or project engineer in a manufacturing environment experience
2+ years of PLC programming experience
2+ years of PLC/SCADA integration experience, or Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, automation engineering, or equivalent

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of automated material handling systems, packaging technologies and storage solutions
Experience working with and managing third party vendors
Experience with Six Sigma, lean manufacturing, or experience in similar environments
Experience with material handling equipment (MHE) safety standards accordance with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and safety standards
Experience working with global cross-functional teams
Knowledge of AutoCAD or electrical design software
Knowledge of safety standards and ergonomic design principles
