About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Test Automation Engineer to help assure the quality, reliability, and performance of bespoke, mission-critical software applications within the telecommunications industry. This role will suit a hands-on automation specialist who enjoys working across complex systems, integrated platforms, customer-impacting workflows, and high-availability environments where quality is essential to operational success.
What You’ll Do
- Design, build, maintain, and enhance automated test frameworks for bespoke telecommunications applications.
- Create automated test scripts for functional, regression, integration, API, end-to-end, smoke, and release readiness testing.
- Work with developers, testers, business analysts, architects, DevOps engineers, vendors, and operational teams to embed quality throughout the delivery lifecycle.
- Automate test coverage for mission-critical workflows.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to support faster, safer, and more reliable releases.
- Analyse requirements, technical designs, user stories, acceptance criteria, data flows, and system integrations to identify automation opportunities and test coverage gaps.
- Investigate automation failures, isolate defects, support root cause analysis, and provide clear reporting on test outcomes, risks, and release quality.
- Maintain reliable test data, reusable automation assets, and regression suites that support ongoing changes to bespoke applications.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of automation standards, tooling, test processes, quality metrics, and engineering practices.
About You
- Strong experience in test automation for bespoke, custom-built, or enterprise software applications.
- Strong experience working in complex integrated environments involving APIs, databases, middleware, third-party systems and operational support systems.
- Practical experience with automation tools and frameworks such as Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, Cucumber, SpecFlow, Postman, REST Assured, JUnit, NUnit, TestNG, or similar.
- Understanding of CI/CD practices and have experience integrating automated tests into tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, Bamboo, or similar.
- Able to write, review, and maintain automation code using languages such as Java, JavaScript, Python or similar.
- Understanding of software testing principles, defect management, regression strategy, release governance, and risk-based testing.
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot defects across multiple systems.
- Able to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders and can explain automation results, quality risks, and blockers in plain language.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience as a Test Automation Engineer, Automation Tester or similar role.
- Experience testing mission-critical applications in the telecommunications industry where reliability, availability, performance, and release confidence are essential.
- Strong understanding of automation framework design, test data management, version control, and maintainable test scripting practices.
- Experience with API testing, integration testing, regression automation, and end-to-end testing.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in information technology, software engineering, computer science, telecommunications, or a related discipline is desirable.
Pay: $90,000.00 – $130,000.00 per year
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Melbourne VIC 3000
