Assistant in Nursing (AIN) – Behavioural Disability Support / SIL

About the Role

Affective Care is seeking a compassionate, experienced and confident Assistant in Nursing (AIN) to provide one-on-one support to our SIL clients, particularly clients with complex behaviours and high support needs.

This role is ideal for an AIN who has experience working with people with disability and behavioural support needs and is confident remaining calm, professional and person-centred in challenging situations.

You will work closely with the client, their support network and the Affective Care team to provide safe, respectful and consistent care while supporting the client's dignity, independence and quality of life.

Key Responsibilities

Provide high-quality personal care, including showering, dressing, grooming, toileting and continence support.
Support clients with mobility, transfers, positioning and manual handling in accordance with individual care plans and risk assessments.
Provide one-on-one support to clients with complex behaviours and high support needs.
Implement positive and person-centred approaches in accordance with individual Behaviour Support Plans.
Recognise triggers, changes in presentation and early warning signs and respond appropriately to reduce escalation.
Remain calm and professional when supporting clients who may display behaviours of concern.
Support clients to develop and maintain routines, independence and daily living skills.
Assist with medication routines in accordance with the client's medication management plan, organisational procedures and role requirements.
Assist with meal preparation, eating and drinking where required.
Support clients with household tasks and maintaining a safe and comfortable home environment.
Support clients to access the community, attend appointments and participate in meaningful activities.
Follow individualised care plans, Behaviour Support Plans, health management plans and other clinical instructions.
Maintain accurate and timely progress notes and documentation.
Report and appropriately escalate changes in behaviour, health, wellbeing, incidents or risks.
Communicate professionally with clients, families, support coordinators, allied health professionals and the Affective Care team.
Maintain client dignity, privacy, choice and independence at all times.
Follow all infection control, manual handling, safeguarding and workplace health and safety procedures.
Participate in ongoing training and competency assessments relevant to the clients you support.

About You

We are looking for an AIN who is confident working with behavioural clients, reliable and genuinely passionate about supporting people with disability.

You will have:

Certificate III or IV in Health Services Assistance, Individual Support, Disability, Nursing Support or a related qualification.
Previous experience working as an AIN, PCA, Disability Support Worker or in a similar care role.
Demonstrated experience supporting clients with complex behaviours and behaviours of concern.
Experience working with clients who may present with challenging or unpredictable behaviours.
A strong understanding of person-centred support and positive behaviour support.
The ability to remain calm, patient and professional during difficult or escalating situations.
Strong observation and communication skills, with the ability to recognise changes in behaviour and escalate concerns appropriately.
Experience with personal care, mobility assistance and manual handling.
Current First Aid and CPR certification.
Current NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willingness to obtain one.
Working with Children Check, where applicable.
Current Australian driver's licence and reliable, insured vehicle is preferred.
The ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a broader care team.
