The Primary Care and Community Health Unit consists of 9 centres that provide a range of services for children, young people and their families, adults, older people and their carers. Our services range from health promotion, prevention and early detection through to assessment, treatment and continuing care. Our staff work in partnership with schools, GPs, hospitals, non-government agencies and other organisations to provide care across our centres, in people’s homes, other community venues as well as virtual care (telehealth).

Join a specialist trauma service and make a meaningful difference in the lives of children, adults and families impacted by sexual violence. The Senior Sexual Assault Counsellor provides expert counselling, assessment, case management and advocacy to clients accessing the Sexual Assault Service. Working within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will support individuals and families through crisis, recovery and healing, while contributing to an integrated and trauma-informed model of care.

This senior role offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with PARVAN clinicians, the Medical Forensic Unit and a range of health and community partners to ensure timely and coordinated responses for clients. In addition to providing specialist clinical care, you will contribute to key PARVAN initiatives, including the Adult Survivor Program, Safer Pathway and Safe Wayz, supporting integrated responses to violence, abuse and neglect across the district. You will also contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, education, consultation and broader PARVAN projects and strategic priorities.

We are seeking an experienced clinician with advanced trauma and violence-informed knowledge and skills, strong clinical reasoning, and the ability to work confidently with clients presenting with complex needs. You will provide consultation and support to other professionals, contribute to clinical leadership activities, and help drive innovation and best practice across the service.

The Sexual Assault Service is a highly respected tertiary trauma service that values collaboration, clinical excellence and ongoing professional growth. Staff are supported through comprehensive internal and external clinical supervision, peer consultation, cultural supervision and professional development opportunities, recognising the importance of clinician wellbeing in this challenging and rewarding area of practice.

As part of Prevention and Response to Violence, Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN), you will contribute to a service committed to improving outcomes for victim-survivors through evidence-informed, person-centred and trauma-responsive care.

What you will bring to the role

Qualification: * Social Work: Degree in Social Work from an accredited course providing eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, or * Psychologist: A four-year degree in psychology, being a three-year degree with a fourth-year honours in psychology; or qualifications deemed equivalent by the employer, and full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia, or * Counselling: Minimum AQF level 7 qualification recognised or accredited by the Peak Body (PACFA) with eligibility for membership as a counsellor with PACFA. Being female is recognised as a genuine occupation qualification for this position and is authorised under section 31(2h) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
Demonstrated client-centred psychosocial assessment skills and specialist knowledge that supports communication and exploration of the sensitive and inter-related dynamics of violence, abuse and neglect issues.
Demonstrated advanced therapeutic counselling clinical practice skills for client groups with complex trauma presentations.
Demonstrated ability to lead from where you are by taking initiative, influencing positive change and contributing to service quality and team culture, including the ability to provide clinical supervision and support to health professionals.
Demonstrated excellence in task and time management, clinical record-keeping, and computer skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accurate, up‑to‑date clinical handover information across multiple patient information systems.
Demonstrated application of current policies and legislation relating to sexual assault, child protection, domestic violence and children under 10 with problematic and harmful sexualised behaviours.
Demonstrated capacity to work in partnership with others applying high level interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to negotiate positive outcomes in emotionally charged situations with difficult and complex issues.
Current NSW State driver's licence (including P1 or above) with willingness to use for work purposes and ability to attend Nepean Hospital within 1 hour as required in participation of 24/7 crisis roster.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified and must not exceed the duration or conditions associated with the current visa.
