The Primary Care and Community Health Unit consists of 9 centres that provide a range of services for children, young people and their families, adults, older people and their carers. Our services range from health promotion, prevention and early detection through to assessment, treatment and continuing care. Our staff work in partnership with schools, GPs, hospitals, non-government agencies and other organisations to provide care across our centres, in people’s homes, other community venues as well as virtual care (telehealth).

This is a new and exciting leadership opportunity within the Community Counselling Service (ComCS), created in recognition of the complex and vital work undertaken to support perinatal mental health, family wellbeing, and early intervention across our communities. The role reflects our commitment to delivering integrated, responsive, and compassionate care for families during one of the most significant transitions in life.
The Community Counselling Service provides accessible, person-centred psychosocial assessment and therapeutic support to children, families, and individuals of all ages across NBMLHD. Working within a warm, collaborative, and highly skilled multidisciplinary environment, ComCS plays a key role in responding to antenatal and postnatal psychosocial concerns, childhood development challenges, domestic and family violence presentations, and a broad range of social, emotional, and behavioural needs. Through early intervention and integrated care, we strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people we support.
As the Clinical Senior Perinatal Specialist, you will have the unique opportunity to help shape and strengthen the district's approach to perinatal psychosocial care. This pivotal role combines strategic leadership with direct clinical practice, allowing you to influence service development while remaining connected to the experiences of families and frontline clinicians.
You will provide expert clinical leadership, championing evidence-informed and best-practice perinatal interventions while fostering strong partnerships across Primary Care and Community Health services, maternity services, mental health services, and external stakeholders. Through consultation, supervision, education, and mentoring, you will support clinicians to build confidence and capability in responding to the complex needs of parents, infants, and families.
We are looking for a passionate and experienced clinician who is committed to supporting families through the physical, emotional, social, and identity changes that accompany pregnancy and the transition to parenthood. You will understand the profound impact that parental mental health and family wellbeing can have on parent-infant relationships and lifelong health outcomes and be motivated to drive positive change in this important area of practice.
Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you will maintain a small specialist caseload, modelling high-quality therapeutic interventions and helping translate strategic priorities into meaningful service improvements. Your expertise, compassion, and ability to inspire others will contribute to a positive team culture, support professional growth, and ensure the service remains responsive, innovative, and aligned with district priorities.
