Access Canberra is looking for a highly motivated person, with high level attention to detail and strong communication skills. This role is fast paced and makes direct and meaningful contributions to keep our community safe and enjoyable for all.

The Director role has responsibility for issuing registrations under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011. The role requires experience in risk management, strong interpersonal skills and relationship management with key community, interstate, and individual stakeholders.

As Director, you will be responsible for the daily operations of the risk assessment and background screening teams, as well as the issuing of registrations to individuals who work or volunteer with vulnerable people in Canberra. ACT Working with Vulnerable People registrations include NDIS Worker Screening and Working with Children checks.

Registration decisions regard the best interests of vulnerable people as the paramount consideration, taking into account their safety, welfare and protection.

Work carried out by the Working with Vulnerable People Team involve potentially distressing case materials such as in the areas of physical violence and abuse, sexual assault, child exploitation (which includes offences relating to child pornography, the grooming and procuring of children for sexual purposes, and child sexual assault). The review of such matters may involve exposure of staff members to graphic violent and pornographic images, written descriptions of such matters, and disturbing factual situations.

Notes: This is a temporary position available from 19 October 2026 until 25 March 2027. This position is available to ACT Government officers and employees only.

Selection may be based on application and referee reports only. Opportunities for flexible working options could include hybrid working, being a combination of working from home, designated office based and FlexiSpace working locations across the ACT, part-time hours, job-sharing, flexible start, and finish times.
