Contentious Character is Canberra’s urban winery, restaurant and cellar door located on the Kingston Foreshore. We are looking for an experienced and passionate Chef to join our kitchen team and help deliver a high-quality dining experience that reflects our bold, creative and distinctly Canberra character.
This is a hands-on position suited to a qualified and experienced Chef who enjoys working in a contemporary restaurant environment and takes pride in quality, consistency and presentation.
The Role
Reporting to the Head Chef, you will be responsible for the preparation and cooking of food across our restaurant and event operations.
Your responsibilities will include:
· Prepare and cook foods of all types for either regular menu items, special requests, or allergen requests for the winery and functions.
· Assist in menu development and planning.
· Assist cooks and other workers in the preparation cooking garnishing and presentation.
· Demonstrate, implement, and maintain effective cost control strategies.
· Develop and maintain appropriate relationships with relevant regulatory authorities.
· Ensure HACCP, OHS compliance, and maintain correct food safety procedures.
· Work independently and as part of a team to achieve specified objectives as determined by both venue and group stakeholders.
- Contributing to a positive, professional and respectful kitchen culture.
- Monitoring the quality, freshness and presentation of food throughout preparation and service.
The Person:
Reporting to the Head Chef and Venue Manager you will be able to work 4 days or 5 days depending on needs of venue including lunch and dinner.
- You must be passionate about food and able to lead by example, with drive, enthusiasm, and attention to detail.
- You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to motivate and develop staff, and be adept at maintaining a positive team environment.
- You must have the ability to work under pressure.
- A genuine passion for food, hospitality and creating memorable dining experiences.
- You will have successfully completed Cert IV in Commercial Cookery.
