Full Job Description

Summary

The Restaurant Manager is responsible for the overall management and day-to-day operations of the Punjabi restaurant, ensuring high standards of customer service, operational efficiency, food safety compliance, staff management, and financial performance. The role involves overseeing the delivery of authentic Punjabi cuisine while maintaining quality, profitability, and compliance with Australian hospitality regulations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Plan, organise, direct and coordinate the daily operations of the Punjabi restaurant.

Develop and implement operational procedures to ensure efficient restaurant performance.

Recruit, train, supervise, roster and evaluate restaurant staff, including chefs, cooks, kitchen hands and front-of-house employees.

Monitor staff performance and ensure compliance with workplace health and safety policies and employment obligations.

Ensure high standards of customer service and promptly resolve customer enquiries, complaints and feedback.

Coordinate dining room operations to ensure efficient service during busy trading periods.

Work closely with the Head Chef to develop menus featuring authentic Punjabi cuisine, seasonal dishes and special promotions.

Monitor food and beverage quality to ensure consistency, presentation and customer satisfaction.

Estimate food and beverage requirements and order supplies from approved suppliers.

Manage inventory levels, stock rotation and storage to minimise waste and maintain product quality.

Negotiate with suppliers regarding pricing, purchasing arrangements and delivery schedules.

Monitor restaurant budgets, sales performance, labour costs and operating expenses to maximise profitability.

Prepare and analyse financial reports, including sales reports, stock reports and wage costs.

Establish pricing strategies in consultation with the business owner.

Ensure compliance with food safety legislation, liquor licensing requirements (where applicable), workplace health and safety regulations and local council requirements.

Maintain records relating to stock control, staffing, payroll, customer reservations and business performance.

Plan and implement marketing initiatives, promotional events and community engagement activities to increase patronage.

Coordinate catering services, private functions and special events where required.

Ensure restaurant facilities, equipment and dining areas are maintained in a clean, safe and presentable condition.

Liaise with external service providers, contractors and regulatory authorities as required.

Skills and Knowledge

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

Strong knowledge of restaurant operations and hospitality management.

Understanding of Punjabi cuisine, dining traditions and customer expectations.

Leadership and staff supervision skills.

Financial management, budgeting and cost-control abilities.

Inventory management and purchasing experience.

Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.

Effective communication and organisational skills.

Sound knowledge of Australian food safety, workplace health and safety, and hospitality legislation.

Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced restaurant environment.

Qualifications and Experience

AQF Diploma or higher qualification in Hospitality Management, Restaurant Management, Business or a related field; or

At least three years of relevant full-time work experience in restaurant management where formal qualifications are not held.

Experience managing a high-volume Indian or Punjabi restaurant is highly desirable.

Working Conditions

Full-time position.

Requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays.

May be required to supervise operations during peak trading periods and special events.

Pay: $80,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
