Primary Objective
The Land Tenure team leads the coordination of land tenure in remote communities for whole of government.
The Director is responsible for managing whole of government infrastructure and remote community housing leases,
working closely with land councils, traditional owners, the Federal Government and NT government agencies to implement
land administration arrangements in remote communities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Develop and maintain effective networks and enhance relationships with key government agencies, remote

communities, Land Councils, Office of Township leasing and other key stakeholder groups.
2. Provide transformational leadership and management to a team responsible for enabling infrastructure and housing in

remote community for internal and external clients.
3. Drive a team culture of efficiency, accountability and collaboration, with continuous improvement of streamlined

systems and processes.
4. Provide high-level advice and recommendations to General Managers and to NT agencies occupying remote lots on land

tenure arrangements, issues and implications.
5. Manage land tenure arrangements over various types of NT Government infrastructure to allow for the delivery of

government services in remote communities.

Selection Criteria
Essential
1. Proven experience in leading a small team to coordinate and partner with government and non-government stakeholders

to develop and deliver major housing or infrastructure related projects.
2. Experience managing pressure and change in an environment undertaking continuous improvement and to modify

approaches to suit different situations.
3. An understanding of aboriginal affairs and culture with a proven track record of engaging effectively with people of

diverse cultures in order to deliver complex concepts and information.
4. Demonstrated experience and understanding of the political, social and economic issues associated with development

of remote areas of the Northern Territory.
5. Demonstrated capacity to facilitate, negotiate and to work on complex issues simultaneously and effectively enhance

organisational performance.
6. Proven experience in contemporary management practices and the principles of human resource management and

relevant experience in staff management including the ability to monitor performance and implement change.
7. Sound understanding of the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 (Cth) and land tenure systems in

remote areas of the Northern Territory.

Desirable
1. Degree in Public or Business Administration, Project Management, Law or related field.
