Primary objective
Lead and manage through collaboration with the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) the implementation of the key initiatives outlined in
Australia’s Sport Participation Strategy, Play Well within the Northern Territory (NT) Government. Industry Development team, in close
collaboration with key stakeholders, to provide high level policy advice, systems support and program delivery that drives the
development, implementation and evaluation of initiatives to enhance the capability, integrity, performance and sustainability of the
Northern Territory (NT) sport and active recreation sector.

Context statement
Industry Development plays a pivotal role in the Department’s ability to support participation in sport and active recreation by all
Territorians, so that communities are engaged, diverse and vibrant places where everyone belongs. The unit works closely with governing
bodies for sport, as well as all affiliates, sport service providers, active recreation organisations, regional councils, aboriginal organisations
and schools across the Territory to deliver the key strategies and desired outcomes of the NT Sport and Active Recreation Strategic Plan
2021-25.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Ensure NT Government investment in sport and active recreation delivers appropriate outcomes through well governed and managed

organisations.
2. Lead collaborative work with key stakeholders to drive innovation and build improvements in programs to ensure product offerings

support a diverse, inclusive and safe participation base that gets more Territorians involved in sport and active recreation.
3. Develop, implement, promote and evaluate systems, policies, programs and resources that meet the needs of the sector.
4. Effectively manage staff to implement best practice planning, grant management, and client servicing for and by sport and active

recreation providers to facilitate delivery of quality experiences.
5. Undertake relevant research, manage the annual collection, analysis and insightful reporting of sector issues and performance, and

prepare high level advice, correspondence and submissions as required.
6. Serve as the primary jurisdictional liaison with the ASC Play Well Implementation team, contributing to national coordination,

governance and shared learning.
7. Foster strong cross-sector relationships with key partners, government agencies, and industry associations to promote collaboration

and support for the strategy, including Play Well Activation Managers in other jurisdictions.
8. Plan, organise, and execute key workshops, meetings, and events related to the Play Well Strategy.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated high level strategic, conceptual, analytical and innovative skills relevant to the sport and active recreation sector,

including contemporary knowledge of Australia Play Well Strategy and experience with issues critical to development of the industry
in the NT.

2. Demonstrated high level record of providing leadership and management to achieve high personal and team performance necessary
for meeting organisational and business objectives.

3. Highly developed interpersonal, negotiation and problem solving skills, as well as demonstrated successful experiences building
effective relationships and strategic alliances with a broad range of sector stakeholders in pursuit of common goals.

4. Demonstrated ability to prepare and communicate well researched information accurately, clearly and succinctly both verbally and in
writing.

5. Demonstrated experience in managing financial resources, risk management, business planning and strategy development.
6. Strong understanding of stakeholder engagement, governance, and project coordination and the ability to operate in complex systems

environments.
7. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable
Tertiary qualification in a field relevant to the key duties and responsibilities.
