Primary objective
To provide high quality clinical services, under the guidance and supervision of specialist staff, through the Obstetrics and
Gynaecology (O and G) department, to Alice Springs Hospital, Alice Springs and Barkly region/fringe areas of Western
Australia and South Australia.
Context statement
This role involves the person who believes in high quality, patient-centred continuity of care, gain valuable rural clinical
experience in O and G in Australia including completing CWH/PTP/APTP pathways. Work closely with consultants and get

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high quality day to day care for inpatient and outpatient clinical services in the Department of Obstetrics and
Gynaecology.
2. Supervise the day-to-day activities of residents and ensure the overall quality of clinical care and the medical record.
3. Participate in the on-call roster as required to ensure the proper functioning of the hospital.
4. Initiate and partake in quality management, peer review and ongoing personal medical education programs.
5. Participate in teaching for junior staff and education programs for medical students.
6. Undertake research as appropriate.
7. Participate in other duties as delegated by the Head of Department or Executive Director of Medical and Clinical Services.
8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Eligible for general medical registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
2. Relevant postgraduate experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a minimum of 6-12 months in an Obstetrics and
Gynaecology Resident Medical Officer (RMO).
3. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to interact positively in a cross-cultural work
environment, as a team member.
4. Ability to work effectively as part of the multi-disciplinary team and an interest in and a commitment to improving
Indigenous health and an ability to work in a cross-cultural environment.
5. Demonstrated commitment to high quality patient care.
Desirable
1. Demonstrated ability to assume administrative and supervisory responsibilities.
2. Flexibility to operate in a changing environment.
