Primary objective
Provide specialist paediatric endocrinology care to both inpatient and ambulatory patients within the Paediatric Department
of the Royal Darwin Hospital, regional hospitals and remote communities of the Top End of The Northern Territory; and to
contribute to post graduate education at Royal Darwin Hospital, including the supervision of paediatric trainees.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide specialist paediatric endocrinology care in outpatients including regular diabetes and endocrinology clinics
2. Provide inpatient care to patients admitted under the general paediatric team, requiring paediatric specialty
endocrinology input
3. Participate in provision of paediatric endocrinology outreach services to regional hospitals and/or remote Top End
communities.
4. Participate in continuous medical education including undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, professional
development, peer review, research, and quality improvement activities.
5. Collaborate with other medical, nursing, and allied health colleagues to review and revise policies, procedures and
guidelines in line with national and international recommendations.
6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
7. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
2. Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians, Fellowship in Paediatric Endocrinology
3. Must have completed not less than the equivalent of six years of full-time service in medical practices as a Staff Specialist.
4. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact positively in a team and in a
cross-cultural work environment.
5. Flexibility: an ability to work in a complex and unpredictable environment.
6. A demonstrated interest in and commitment to improving Indigenous health.
7. Evidence of commitment to continuing education, teaching, research and quality improvement activities
Desirable
1. Previous experience working in the Northern Territory or similar setting.
2. Experience managing young people with Type 2 Diabetes and gender dysphoria
3. Experience contributing to the development and implementation of local/regional policy
