Job Description
We're seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer (L2) to join our Sydney Airport team. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys troubleshooting complex equipment, solving technical challenges, and working directly with customers in a fast-paced operational environment.
As a Field Service Engineer, you'll be responsible for maintaining, repairing, installing, and supporting advanced X-ray and trace detection systems that play a critical role in aviation and security operations. You'll work both independently and as part of a highly collaborative team committed to delivering exceptional customer service and technical excellence.
What You'll Be Doing

Troubleshoot, service, maintain and repair X-ray and trace detection equipment

Complete preventative maintenance activities in line with service agreements and maintenance schedules

Respond to equipment breakdowns and corrective maintenance requests within agreed KPI timeframes

Diagnose mechanical, electrical and electronic faults using multimeters, diagnostic software and testing equipment

Replace motors, belts, rollers, X-ray generators and other mechanical components

Conduct inspections, cleaning, repairs and component replacement activities within equipment

Install, commission and test new systems at customer sites

Complete service reports, maintenance records and technical documentation accurately and on time

Manage spare parts consumption and inventory transactions through internal systems

Travel to customer sites across metropolitan, regional and remote locations when required

Participate in an on-call roster and provide remote and onsite technical support

Analyse service data and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

Support, coach and mentor junior engineers and new team members

Maintain safe work practices and contribute to a strong safety culture

Collaborate effectively with customers, contractors and internal stakeholders
Qualifications
What We're Looking For

Certificate III Trade Qualification or Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, IT or a related discipline

Minimum 3+ years' experience in a field service, maintenance or technical support environment

Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical and electronic systems

Experience working with complex equipment, automation, industrial systems or similar technologies

Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities

Strong customer service and communication skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

Current Australian driver's licence

Ability to obtain relevant security clearances and industry licences

Flexibility to work across a 24/7 rotating shift roster and participate in on-call support
