The Ops Director owns end-to-end operational delivery for ASI — production, engineering, procurement, and workshop management — ensuring safety, quality, and delivery performance that support the company's growth strategy. The role is a critical partner to the Commercial Director in resolving issues between Sales and Operations, ensuring commercial commitments to customers are realistic, deliverable, and consistently met.
Operational Leadership & Production
- Own end-to-end production operations, ensuring safety, quality, and on-time delivery targets are met.
- Drive continuous improvement in production efficiency, throughput, and capacity planning.
- Set and monitor operational KPIs across workshop and production functions.
Engineering & Technical Oversight
- Oversee the engineering function, supporting manufacturing processes and technical problem-solving.
- Partner with the R&D/Metallurgy function on the manufacturability of new products and materials.
Procurement & Supply Chain
- Oversee procurement and logistics for raw materials and consumables, ensuring supply continuity and cost control.
- Manage key supplier relationships and contracts.
- Monitor procurement scope and flag to the GM if strategic sourcing needs outgrow the current reporting structure.
Workshop Management
- Oversee workshop operations, equipment maintenance, and workforce scheduling.
- Ensure the shop floor meets EHS standards, working closely with the EHS function.
Commercial Alignment
- Partner with the Commercial Director to ensure production capacity and lead times align with sales commitments, particularly for the four core customers and new-market opportunities.
- Provide input on production feasibility and cost for new market or product opportunities.
People Leadership
- Lead and develop direct reports across Workshop, Operations, Engineering, and Procurement.
- Partner with HR on shopfloor workforce planning, including hiring and award-compliant shift structures.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with the Business Integration & Improvement function to help close the Sales–Operations collaboration gap.
- Collaborate with EHS on safety compliance and incident management.
- Collaborate with FP&A on operational budgeting and cost control.
- 10+ years senior operations leadership experience in steel, metals manufacturing, or a heavy industrial environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing multi-disciplinary teams spanning production, engineering, and procurement.
- Track record of driving operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
- Strong understanding of EHS and manufacturing compliance requirements.
- Experience operating in shift-based, award-covered manufacturing environments.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, operations management, or a related field.
