CSSD Senior Instrument Technician

About the role:

Darwin Private Hospital currently has a vacancy for a Full-time Senior Instrument Technician to join their established team.

About us:
Darwin Private Hospital is the only provider of private hospital services in the Northern Territory. As part of the Healthscope Group of Hospitals, it is a licenced 122 bed hospital providing a broad range of multiday and day surgery including, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Plastic and Reconstructive, Urology, Gastroenterology and ENT and Cardiac Catheter Laboratory. In February 2021, a purpose built 18 bed inpatient Mental Health & AoD Unit, The Darwin Clinic, opened a new service for patients in the Northern Territory. It also incorporates a dedicated Day Rehabilitation Program.

Our world-class private hospital attracts patients from across the greater Northern Territory, Western Australia, remote aboriginal communities and even offshore. We are co-located with Royal Darwin Hospital and partner in delivering specialised care to patients from across the top end of Australia.

Key responsibilities:

Ensuring the standards of sterilising practice and infection control are followed at all times
Cleaning, washing, packing, wrapping and sterilising of reusable instruments, equipment and consumables used in operating theatre and clinical areas
Performing, interpreting, documenting and overseeing mechanical, chemical and biological quality assurance tests on instrument washers and sterilisers to ensure that they are performing to set standards (AS/NZS4187)
Coordinate the integration loan sets ensuring all items are present on receipt and release and entering them into the facility electronic tracking system. Work in tandem with Stores department and nursing staff to ensure timely processing and return of priority loan equipment.
Provide relief support during periods of absence of other senior staff (e.g. CSSD Manager, CSSD Educator roles) and assist in risk management and quality improvement projects.

Desired Criteria:

Certificate III in Sterilisation essential
5 years’ experience working in a hospital CSSD
Sound knowledge of AS/NZ 4187 2014
Demonstrated knowledge of instrumentation
Experience with tracking systems
Endoscopy reprocessing experience or willingness to learn
Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail
An interest in promoting best practice patient care
A focus on professional development
Certificate IV in Sterilisation desired
