Coffey Testing have an opportunity for a Regional Quality and Training Lead to join our team based out of our Sydney (Melrose Park) laboratory.

Coffey Testing are industry leaders for construction materials testing services. Our Geotechnicians are skilled in the delivery of aggregate, concrete, and soil testing services as well as complex specialty testing on soft soils, aggregates, and rock.

About the role
Based in Sydney (Melrose Park), the Regional Quality & Training Lead is a permanent full-time role that supports the development and implementation of quality practices and training programs to prepare for audits and to continually improve out technicians' capabilities. The role will cover our laboratories in NSW (mainly Sydney) as well as ACT. This role reports to the General Manager – NSW/ACT, and is also supported by our Head of Quality & Training.

Key responsibilities include:
- Monthly quality auditing as required by Laboratory Monthly KPIs for each location in the region and identify and report on trends.
- Review and assistance with close out from NCR’s actions raised in the Monthly Lab Audits.
- Ensure the laboratories, annexes and project sites operating in the region comply with the Quality Management System, and upskilling technicians in their understanding of this QMS.
- Schedule a 12-month calendar of visits in agreement with relevant GM for auditing, training, competency assessments, competencies, etc.
- Support the region with NATA audits, including preparing the site for the audit beforehand, aiding and support during the audit and assisting with NATA close out activities for the region.
- Facilitate the approved signatory process.
- Work with the management team to build the laboratories scope of testing when identified opportunities arise.
- Facilitate QAA and proficiency testing for the region.
- Ensure calibrations are performed as required with a focus to upskilling technicians to be competent to perform equipment checks in accordance with ISO17025.
- Continuously assess current quality practices to identify risks/opportunities to improve and make recommendations to mitigate these risks and create efficiencies.
- Collaborate with Laboratory Supervisors to identify relevant training needs.
- Develop training plans for al technicians in the region.
- Ensure that training material and information is up to date and accurate.
- Assist with creation and distribution of Standard Operating Procedures and In-house test methods
- Reviewing controlled documents and uncontrolled wall charts/test methods.
- Provide post-training support to technicians through regular contact, monitoring progress and liaising with LMs to ensure learning is supported and new knowledge and skills are being applied on-the-job.
- Conduct regular workplace observations to assess technician competency levels and identify any opportunities for further development and refresher training.
- Deliver training for technicians to build skills and capability.
- Complete and maintain training records including updating employee training records.
- Support the monitoring of external Training (Certificate and Diploma) Programs for completion by technicians.
- Involvement in the Training Academy, either in person or by Teams.
- Support to train client staff and engineers as requested.
Ensure adherence to all Coffey Testing policies, procedures, and systems.

About you

To be successful you will have:
- Technical ability and expertise in a range of construction materials, with an understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 or willingness to complete.
- Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment (desirable) or willingness to undertake.
- 5+ years’ experience working in the Geotechnical and Civil Construction Materials Testing industry as a Geotechnician including soil and concrete (aggregate desirable);
- Minimum NATA level 3;
- Exposure to quality and safety auditing activities including NATA audits and close outs;
- Experience in developing skills in others through formal and informal coaching environments;
- Demonstrated ability to translate technical information into easy-to-understand step-by-step instruction;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills essential when dealing with a range of different stakeholders;
- Basic knowledge of adult learning principles and training instruction design skills;
- High level organisational skills with the ability to problem solve, seek solutions, manage multiple priorities, and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines;
- High level of integrity, maturity, and initiative, and the proven ability to exercise discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential information;
- Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point; including the capacity to learn new systems;
- Enthusiastic and performance driven team player and
Good presentation and facilitation skills.
