Sous Chef – New Fine Dining Venue | Aura on the Rivers

Aura on the Rivers | Kangaroo Point, Brisbane
Salary: $80,000 + super | Negotiable based on experience
Start date: By 7 September 2026
Casual contract initially, with potential for permanent employment

Aura on the Rivers is a brand-new fine dining restaurant located on the waterfront in Kangaroo Point, Brisbane. We are building a passionate and supportive team ahead of our opening and are looking for an enthusiastic Sous Chef to join us as we bring the venue to life.

This is an exciting opportunity for a chef who wants to be involved from the beginning and have genuine creative input into the kitchen, menu and overall direction of a new restaurant.

About the Role

Working closely with the Head Chef and management team, the Sous Chef will play an important role in establishing and maintaining a high standard of food, service and kitchen operations.

You will be involved in:

Supporting the Head Chef with day-to-day kitchen operations
Assisting with menu development and menu design
Contributing creative ideas and new dishes
Helping establish recipes, preparation procedures and kitchen standards
Working with fresh, quality produce and maintaining high presentation standards
Assisting with ordering, stock control and kitchen organisation
Supporting the recruitment, training and development of kitchen staff
Helping build a positive, respectful and collaborative kitchen culture
Maintaining food safety, hygiene and workplace standards
Taking responsibility for the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence
Working closely with FOH and management to deliver an exceptional guest experience

About You

We are looking for someone who is passionate about food, enjoys working as part of a team and is excited by the opportunity to help build something from the ground up.

Fine dining experience is highly valued but is not essential. We are more interested in your attitude, work ethic, creativity and willingness to contribute.

The ideal candidate will have:

Previous experience in a Sous Chef or senior Chef position
Strong kitchen organisation and leadership skills
A genuine passion for quality food and presentation
The ability to work calmly and effectively in a busy kitchen
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
A creative approach to food and menu development
Good knowledge of food safety and kitchen procedures
Experience training or supervising other kitchen staff
Familiarity with Queensland/Australian local produce and suppliers is a bonus
