About the Role
From à la carte service in our award-winning Bacchus Restaurant to catering for conferences and banquets across our 14 event spaces, our kitchen at Rydges South Bank never runs short of variety.
We're looking for a Demi Chef on a Fixed Term Fulltime basis to join the brigade, working across sections and supporting the delivery of consistent, high-quality food for everything from an intimate boardroom lunch to a 600-guest gala. This role is perfect for someone building their craft who wants exposure to both restaurant and large-scale event cookery in a busy, supportive kitchen.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook menu items to specification across restaurant, room service, banquet and conference operations.
- Work efficiently across assigned sections, maintaining consistency, quality and presentation standards during service.
- Support the Sous Chef and Head Chef with mise en place, stock rotation, and daily kitchen preparation.
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, and WH&S procedures, including correct storage and labelling of stock.
- Assist with the planning and execution of conference and event catering, adapting to different formats, group sizes and dietary requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organised and well-stocked section, minimising wastage and controlling costs.
- Support the training and development of Apprentices and junior kitchen team members.
- Communicate effectively with Front of House, Conference & Events, and other kitchen team members to ensure smooth service.
What You'll Bring
- Trade qualification in commercial cookery, or working towards one, with relevant kitchen experience.
- Experience working across a la carte, banquet, or large-scale event catering is highly regarded.
- Good knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure across a varied and sometimes fast-changing events calendar.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in food quality and presentation.
- A team player with a positive attitude and willingness to learn from senior chefs.
- Flexibility to work a rotating roster, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends around the events calendar.
