Permanent Fulltime Position - Monday to Friday 40 hours per week
Belmont-office-based | Commencing in early July 2026

The Business

Genus are specialists in delivering innovative end-to-end solutions in multiple sectors across Australia. Focusing on Transmission, Distribution, Substations and Renewable Energy as a subsidiary of the GenusPlus Group (ASX: GNP) which is also an industry leader in Communications, Rail, Gas & Water Infrastructure. The business is experiencing high growth and needs experienced people to support its expansion.

The Role

Genus is offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced legal professional to join our pre-contract commercial team. The (Senior) Contract Specialist will play an important role in reviewing and negotiating contracts, particularly during the tender phase. Genus will rely on them to identify and mitigate legal and commercial risks and deal with them consistent with enterprise policies and commercial procedures. Working as part of a small team, this position will have responsibility for contracts during the entire contract formation process.

Duties and responsibilities

Conduct thorough reviews of contracts, subcontracts and tender documentation.
Demonstrate and document compliance with Genus contract review and execution procedures.
Identify contractual risks and terms which are inconsistent with Genus risk policies.
Ensure contracts are in alignment with enterprise and project objectives.
Work closely with company executives as well as engineering, estimating, planning and procurement teams to align technical and commercial contract positions.
Provide the post-contract commercial team with a risk register on hand-over of executed contracts.
Facilitate internal review of Genus contractual documents, incorporating stakeholder feedback to ensure ongoing and comprehensive contract development.
Participate in progressive redrafting, updating and improvement of standard company documents.
Engage with clients, suppliers and internal stakeholders to address contractual queries and promote commercially astute, risk-aware decision-making.

Position Requirements

Legal practitioner or law graduate.
Australian tertiary qualifications in Law.
A solid understanding of Australian contract law.
Minimum 3 years' experience in a contract's role.
Preferred more than 5 years’ experience for Senior role and commensurate remuneration
Experience reviewing construction contracts, consultancy agreements and subcontracts.
Exposure to contract negotiation within the construction, infrastructure and/or mining sectors.

What you will bring to the role

Solid understanding of pre-award contract processes including contract review, contract negotiation, contract execution, hand over and close-out processes.
Excellence in interpreting contract terms and providing commercially sound, pragmatic contractual advice aligned to project and legal objectives.
Capacity to draft, propose and consider contract amendments with speed, agility and accuracy.
Familiarity with major construction contract forms (e.g., AS, NEC & FIDIC).
Ability to identify and escalate commercial risks to management and provide considered recommendations.
Demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments and contribute to the development of risk mitigation strategies and risk registers.
Confidence to represent the company in meetings and negotiations, presenting and discussing contract terms and addressing any concerns raised by clients or suppliers.
Capacity to engage with clients and suppliers to address contractual queries and promote risk-aware decision-making.
Experience preparing and organising documentation for internal and external audits.
Ability to collaborate with both senior and junior team members to progress contract negotiations.
Capacity to work independently, confidently, efficiently and calmly under pressure.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with internal stakeholders and external clients.
Proficiency with document control systems, contract management systems, the Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Acrobat.
Strong attention to detail and an appetite for perfection.
Demonstrated good safety record and knowledge of Work Health and Safety issues.
