Full Job Description

Position purpose

The primary purpose of this position is to provide management of the training functions of AEC. The Academic Manager will take a leading role in determining the faculties’ strategic direction (to complement the strategic direction of the college) and will manage the faculties to achieve the strategic direction of the faculty and the college. The Academic Manager will also be expected to promote excellence in education and learning and organise and oversee development and implementation of courses so that the overall education and learning of all students is maximised.

The Academic Manager will be responsible to the CEO for promoting a sense of unity, cooperation and common purpose within the college and will ensure effective leadership and management of all operational aspects of both faculties.

The Academic Manager provides academic leadership to the faculty and is responsible for the strategic development and management of the faculty’s academic offerings, scholarly profile and culture, within the overall objectives and strategic direction of the college.

Major Duties

Training and assessment:

Ensure the AEC maintains a quality approach to training and assessment within all of its courses.
Ensure all training and assessment processes and systems are managed in compliance with the VET Quality Framework including the Standards for RTOs, as well as the ESOS Act 2000 and the National Code 2018
·Ensure that AEC transitions to new Training Packages within 12 months of their publication on the National Register.
Manage the transition from superseded Training Packages within 12 months of their publication on the National Register.
Manage transition from expired accredited courses so that it delivers only currently accredited courses.
Ensure AEC recognises the qualifications and statements of attainment issued by any other Australian Registered Training Organisation.
Ensure AEC has a fair and accessible approach to Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and all students are given the opportunity to apply for RPL upon enrolment.
Ensure AEC consults effectively with industry in relation to all courses on its Scope of Registration.
Lead validation activities according to the Validation Plan and ensure they are carried out in accordance with the Validation Policy and Procedure

Critical Incidents:

Respond to critical incidents according to the Critical Incident Policy and Procedure

Course Progress and Attendance Monitoring:

Support students to meet student course progress and attendance requirements in order to meet their expected course durations and VISA requirements.
Assist students to access welfare support as needed free of charge
Notify students of unsatisfactory attendance and course progress.
Organise and attend meetings to create student intervention strategies in order to help students meet their attendance and course progress requirements.
Report students via PRISMS where they have demonstrated unsatisfactory course progress in two consecutive study periods and/or has failed to meet attendance requirements despite interventions implemented.

Compliance

Ensure AEC complies with all legislative requirements, obligations and contractual commitments as well as its own policies and procedures. In particular:

1. VET Quality Framework

2.ASQA’s General Directions and Fact Sheets

3.Relevant Commonwealth, State or Territory l legislation and regulatory requirements which are relevant to its operations and Scope of Registration.

4.The ESOS Act 2000 and the National Code 2018

5.Australian Vocational Education and Training Management Information and Statistical Standards (AVETMISS)

Ensure AEC conducts internal audits against the RTO Standards at least annually.
Ensure ASQA is notified of any significant changes to AEC’s control, management or operations

Selection Criteria

Essential:

Relevant VET and Tertiary qualifications, including Cert IV TAE;
Highly developed leadership skills including strategy development, creativity and the ability to lead and manage all operational aspects of relevant faculties;
A record of excellent achievement in training and coordination within the VET sector;
Good communication skills demonstrating the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and members of the wider community;
Demonstrated commitment to the highest ethical, personal and professional standards in all aspects of leadership and work;
Personal qualities of enthusiasm for work, innovation and motivation.

Desirable

At least three years’ experience in a similar senior academic role within the VET sector;
Membership of appropriate professional associations (where relevant);
Familiarity with current and emerging needs of the relevant professions/sectors and the environment in which faculty operates;
Capacity to develop and maintain effective collaborative relationships both within and external to the faculty, and external to the college.

Pay: $45,000.00 – $55,000.00 per year
