SFDesign is a privately owned, multidisciplinary engineering and design consultancy located in Bentley, Perth. We specialize in delivering innovative solutions in Structural, Mechanical & Piping (SMP) design for both brownfield and greenfield projects. Our services include project management, engineering, design, 3D modelling, 2D drafting, and laser scanning, as well as on-site consignment services where our team members collaborate directly with clients.
At SFDesign, we take pride in our inclusive work culture. We regularly celebrate team and individual achievements with social events, fostering a friendly and collaborative environment.
We're looking for Mechanical Engineers to join our growing team. In this role, you will provide design solutions and technical support across SMP disciplines, working closely with clients and internal stakeholders to deliver high-quality results.
About the role and tasks
Your duties will include:
- Reviewing project specifications, functional requirements, operational data and engineering information to determine project scope, technical responsibilities, resource requirements and engineering priorities.
- Designing mechanical equipment, components, piping systems, structures and plant layouts for mining and industrial applications using Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks.
- Developing detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings, technical specifications and engineering documentation to support fabrication, installation, inspection and maintenance activities.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering and operations teams to deliver safe, practical and cost-effective mechanical and process plant solutions in accordance with statutory and client requirements.
- Performing engineering calculations, including stress, torque, fatigue and load analysis, to verify the integrity, performance and safety of mechanical and structural systems.
- Conducting and interpreting Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to assess operational performance, optimise designs and improve equipment reliability and maintainability.
- Determining suitable materials, equipment, piping arrangements, capacities and system layouts for manufacturing, construction and plant operation requirements.
- Applying relevant Australian Standards, engineering principles and safety regulations to ensure compliance for design, installation, testing, inspection and maintenance activities.
- Preparing engineering reports, technical assessments, calculations and recommendations to support project delivery, quality assurance and operational decision-making.
- Visiting client sites to conduct inspections, condition assessments, equipment surveys and 3D laser scanning of mechanical and structural installations to support engineering and maintenance programs.
- Supporting project execution through coordination of labour, materials, equipment procurement and engineering deliverables to achieve project schedule and budget objectives.
- Developing and maintaining engineering procedures, work instructions and quality documentation to support standardisation, efficient labour utilisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Conducting engineering peer reviews and providing technical guidance to ensure accuracy, compliance and consistency across engineering deliverables.
- Mentoring undergraduate engineers by providing technical support, training and professional development guidance.
- Assisting with plant improvement, modification and maintenance projects to ensure equipment performance, operational reliability and ongoing compliance with engineering and safety standards.
- Performing additional engineering and project-related duties as required to support business operations and client project objectives.
