About the Opportunity
We’re seeking a capable Engineer (Mechanical / Structural) to support engineering activities across the Collins Class submarine program. Reporting to the Engineering Work Package Lead – Weapons and Hydraulics, you will provide discipline-specific engineering support across design and sustainment activities, ensuring solutions are safe, practical and suitable for implementation in a complex, safety-critical environment.
In this role, you will contribute to engineering analysis, documentation, and technical decision‑making while working closely with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, production and project functions. This is an opportunity to build your experience in submarine systems while delivering high‑quality engineering outcomes in a regulated and highly collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform structural analysis, calculations and modelling using established tools and engineering processes.
- Develop engineering documentation including specifications, test procedures, reports and technical artefacts.
- Interpret and apply design requirements to support maintenance and design activities.
- Conduct and support root cause analysis and investigation work.
- Participate in peer reviews of engineering outputs to ensure quality and compliance.
- Plan and prioritise assigned work to meet cost, schedule and quality objectives.
- Provide support across multidisciplinary teams including engineering, production and project stakeholders.
- Contribute to risk and opportunity management activities within assigned work scope.
- Lead small, single‑discipline tasks where required, under guidance from senior engineers.
About you
- Degree‑qualified in Engineering with eligibility for professional membership (for example Engineers Australia).
- Experience or exposure to mechanical or structural analysis, design or engineering in a relevant environment.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability with the ability to work through structured engineering tasks.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a project environment.
- Understanding of engineering lifecycle, configuration management, safety and sustainment principles.
- Collaborative team player with the ability to engage with a range of stakeholders.
- Eligible for Defence security clearance and ITAR requirements.
Eligibility
This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
