Join our team as a Sediment and Erosion Control Officer
Are you passionate about protecting the environment and ensuring development activities are carried out responsibly? We're seeking a Sediment and Erosion Control Officer to join our Environmental Services Compliance team. In this role, you'll help safeguard waterways, stormwater systems and the natural environment through proactive and reactive compliance activities relating to sediment, erosion control and water quality.
This is a varied and rewarding role that combines field work, technical assessment, stakeholder engagement and environmental compliance. Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting inspections and investigations relating to sediment, erosion control and water quality matters across development, commercial and residential sites.
- Providing technical, operational and legislative advice to internal and external stakeholders.
- Assessing compliance issues and determining appropriate outcomes in accordance with environmental legislation and Council policies.
- Preparing reports, correspondence, briefing notes and enforcement documentation relating to complex compliance matters.
- Building effective relationships with developers, builders, contractors and the community to support environmental compliance.
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and supporting knowledge sharing within the team.
Skills and experience:
- Experience interpreting and applying environmental legislation, regulations and policies.
- Knowledge of sediment and erosion control practices, water quality management and environmental compliance principles.
- Strong investigative, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.
- Highly developed written communication skills, including the preparation of reports, correspondence and compliance documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and achieve outcomes in a high-volume work environment.
- Qualifications in environmental compliance, local government, environmental science or a related discipline, including a Certificate IV in Statutory Compliance, or Diploma of Local Government, will be highly regarded.
