Position Profile:
The Discipline of Anatomical Pathology PathWest is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, enthusiastic Consultant Pathologist to the Fiona Stanley Hospital/Royal Perth Hospital network. Subspecialty interest or expertise in cytopathology, gastrointestinal and cardiothoracic pathology are strongly desirable. Given our intention to commence transition into digital pathology within the next 12 months, knowledge in this area will be beneficial.
The Anatomical Pathology Discipline provides a state-wide public histopathology and cytopathology service with laboratories co-located in Fiona Stanley Hospital, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Royal Perth Hospital, Perth Children’s Hospital and King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women. PathWest Anatomical Pathology laboratory processes more than 100,000 surgical and 25,000 cytology cases annually and provides a full range of diagnostic services in histopathology, cytopathology, electron microscopy, molecular pathology and non-coronial autopsy services to the wider WA community. In addition, large numbers of consultation cases are referred each year by pathologists from within WA and interstate.
The Discipline of Anatomical Pathology PathWest is one of the few highly subspecialised services in the country, therefore, expertise in subspecialties such as renal pathology, breast pathology, cytopathology, head and neck pathology, endocrine pathology, dermatopathology, gastrointestinal pathology, soft tissue and bone pathology, genitourinary pathology, neuropathology, paediatric pathology, haematopathology, pulmonary pathology, cardiovascular and molecular pathology are led by senior pathologists allowing us to provide the most accurate diagnostic service. This enhances communication with subspecialised clinical services, optimises registrar training and promotes research and development in areas of subspecialties. The molecular laboratory is specialised in DNA and RNA-based testing of tumours using cutting edge technologies for the purposes of accurate diagnosis, prognostication and prediction of response to tumour-specific therapies. The comprehensive diagnostic and clinical services provided by the Anatomical Pathology Discipline can be browsed on-line at https://pathwest.health.wa.gov.au/Our-Services/Clinical-Services/Anatomical-Pathology.
The appointee will be highly motivated, have demonstrated ability to work harmoniously as part of a large team of Anatomical Pathologists and will provide responsive, best practice, client focussed service. The appointee will share the Department's strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, continuing education, and applied clinical research in pathology. There is a strong focus on registrar training.
