Remuneration: $114,251.00 – $134, 809.00 per annum (+ super + 17.5% leave loading)

About the Opportunity

The Child Wellbeing Coordinator provides coordination and support to health services in recognising and responding to child and young person safety, welfare and wellbeing concerns through the provision of consults, education, and development; and updating of resources. In this district-wide role, you will advise, support and educate health staff to help determine the level of risk to a child or young person and plan initial actions required, including ensuring all suspected risk of significant harm (ROSH) matters are reported to the Child Protection Helpline and providing advice about referral pathways within the LHD including for Chapter 16A requests.

You will also respond to complex cases involving vulnerable families, children and young people, work closely with other Government departments and agencies, and support and coordinate in services and education for health staff. Facilitating the alignment and coordination of agency systems in relation to child protection and wellbeing and contribute to projects within IPARVAN framework; aligned with the Child Safe Standards; Keep them Safe Initiatives and Close the Gap initiatives.

As the Child Wellbeing Coordinator, you will:

Support Health staff to fulfil their responsibilities in recognising and responding to child protection concerns through consultation, clinical advice, and the development of resources and education.
Assess concerns from health mandatory reporters regarding the safety, welfare and wellbeing of children, young people and unborn babies, applying expert knowledge to guide an appropriate health response.
Exercise independent professional judgement in problem-solving and case management, including the timely escalation of emergent, complex or critical matters to the Child Protection Helpline and/or Child Wellbeing Unit (CWU).
Facilitate relevant data collection and analysis in relation to the child protection and wellbeing responsibilities of CWUs and LHD mandatory reporters.
Maintain accurate and comprehensive records, including case notes and databases, documenting health workers’ concerns, clinical appraisal, decision-making, shared information, and agreed plans and actions.
Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of systems, processes, and procedures within LHDs to support effective and appropriate responses to vulnerable children and families.
Act as a resource and mentor to staff, providing guidance on child protection, wellbeing, and the healthcare needs of children and young people, including culturally safe and respectful practice, education, and policy.
Build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders and community partners to support collaborative and integrated service responses.
Participate in case reviews and clinical audits to support continuous practice and systems improvement in service delivery to vulnerable children and young people.
Participate in Violence, Abuse and Neglect Service (VANS) coverage.

About You

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate:

Relevant tertiary qualifications in a health-related discipline (minimum bachelor’s degree).
Demonstrated understanding of the legislative context for child protection intervention.
Demonstrated knowledge of children and young people's health and wellbeing, and the impact of trauma on growth and development.
Demonstrated ability to plan and implement workload priorities in an environment of competing demands, with the ability to work autonomously and provide high level risk assessment and decision making.
Sound understanding of MLHD's range of health services and advanced skills in building and sustaining collaborative relationships with key stakeholders within and external to MLHD.
High level interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to facilitate education and/or training groups.
Demonstrated skills and experience in working with computer software applications, databases and programs.
NSW Working with Children Check.
National Police Check.
Current Class C Drivers Licence and willingness to travel across the health district.
