Location Profile

Altona Primary School has a proud history of learning growth and a positive school culture. The school has an enrolment of approximately 500 students, composed of 22 classes from Prep to Year 6.

Our grounds are comprised of four playground spaces, large synthetic court surfaces, an oval, soccer pitch, sand pits and garden spaces. We have 25 classroom spaces, an art room, music room, STEM space and library. Infrastructure includes a heritage building, BER building and a number of relocatable classrooms. We have had a recent grounds upgrade with the inclusion of a hardcourt surface, new synthetic courts, new playgrounds and a large deck.

Selection Criteria

APPLICANTS WILL NEED TO SUBMIT A RESUME. ALONG WITH THIS, A SINGLE PAGE RESPONSE/LETTER WHICH OUTLINES SKILLS/CAPABILITIES REFERENCED IN THE SELECTION CRITERIA BELOW.

SC1 Demonstrated experience in building and grounds maintenance, repair, and gardening

SC2 A strong work ethic, eye for detail and a sense of pride in efficiently completing work to a high standard as well as the ability to work independently and to follow instructions

SC3 Sound understanding of OHS standards and maintenance procedures in a school setting.

SC4 Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate advice and support effectively with staff, students, and contractors in respect to the work area.

Role

Hours: 15.2 hours per week (negotiable up to 22.8 hours per week)

Attendance: Requirement for possible attendance during School Vacation Periods (hours/days to be negotiated)

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the upkeep and general maintenance of the school grounds and buildings

Duties will include, but not limited to:

Sweeping/blowing/pressure washing paved areas of the school grounds as required, keeping grounds neat and tidy
Maintaining all grass areas including mowing, trimming, edging, and spraying
Establishing/maintaining garden beds
Mulching and watering
Basic repairs to outdoor surfaces, structures, equipment and general maintenance
Identifying and addressing (where possible) any hazards around the grounds and walkways
Liaise with external contractors as required to effect repairs that cannot be completed in-house
Repair and maintenance of external gates & fences
Undertake general maintenance across the school and ensure that all OHS requirements are met
Daily Maintenance tasks including minor carpentry repairs (fixing doors, windows etc), painting and general cleaning
Attending to minor plumbing issues
Respond to service requests from staff for breakdowns and repairs and maintain records of such requests
