At Mount Eliza Secondary College (MESC) a collaborative and personalised approach supports students and staff as active learners. We work to empower students to be their best by questioning their experiences, expressing themselves with confidence and participating in local, national, and global communities. Located in the Shire of Mornington, Mount Eliza Secondary is a medium sized secondary college that provides for students from over 15 feeder primary schools, including a large number from the local Central Peninsula Network (CPN) The current school enrolment is 800 students enabling a guaranteed and viable curriculum, notwithstanding a rich array of extra-curricular programs and activities, including in the areas of Music, Performing Arts and Sport.

The major focus for our work in recent years, and into the next Strategic Plan is around:
1. Maximise the achievement and learning growth of all students:
- Design and embed a curriculum and pedagogical approaches that explicitly develop Literacy and Numeracy skills, and that promote deep inquiry and authentic application of learning across all areas.
- Build all teachers capability in using data to monitor students learning growth, to address their points of learning, and to offer differentiated learning challenge.
2. Maximise the wellbeing and engagement of all students.
- Enhance student's agency through opportunities for real-world learning, improved feedback practices, and increased choice in their learning.
- Embed a whole-school approach, with tiered and responsive practices, that supports all students wellbeing and engagement in school.
We continue to address an approach as a whole college to focus on accountability and consistency, and a genuine belief in meeting the needs of our students. Managing increasing enrolments continues to be a priority that we are happy to have. To manage and promote calm and a restorative learning environment growth in student numbers, we have employed additional staff to support the wellbeing and behaviour of our young people.

Attendance requirement for this position:
- Attendance Requirement: 30 days This means the position includes a 4-week holiday period (30 days of leave per year). A leave purchase allowance will be paid fortnightly.
Mount Eliza Secondary College requires a multi-skilled individual who can attend to a range of maintenance and gardening tasks across our school. The maintenance and improvement of our infrastructure is a priority and we require a dedicated, hard working individual to join our team. Skills/qualifications in one or more trades is highly desirable, but not essential.
Performs and/or supervises tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice and school policy. Supervision and coordination would be limited to ensuring routine tasks are performed to required standards.
Specialised support to achieve specific outcomes is a feature of range 2. Typically, this will involve accountability for a single function, (e.g. ensuring data is properly maintained) or the operation of a work area (e.g. managing the day-to-day operation of a school office) under the direction of the principal or another senior manager.
Performs technical tasks that require a sound knowledge of basic technical and/or scientific principles that are used to develop and adapt work methods and make judgements where there are clear guidelines and limited options.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
The responsibilities of the Maintenance Officer will include, but not be limited to the following:
- Assist with general & cyclical maintenance of facilities & equipment
- General gardening, including mowing, whipper snipping, weeding etc.
- Undertake emergency and planned maintenance and repairs within capacity and at the direction of the Principal
- Maintain and store all equipment, tools and plant in a safe and clean condition
- Arrange for the routine testing and assessment of relevant plant and tools as required to maintain safety
- Participate in any routine essential safety inspections
- Ensure that induction and attendance processes are followed for any tradespersons engaged at the College
- Maintain records of all works undertaken by external tradespersons, such as safety certificates and safe working method statements
- Undertake routine inspections of the College, for the purpose of identifying maintenance priorities for discussion with the Principal
- Participate in routine OH & S inspections for the purpose of understanding tasks required to be undertaken and their priority
- Maintain an awareness of the location of essential services, including water isolation points, fire points, drainage systems etc
- Regularly inspect or arrange the inspection of all pumps/gutters on roofs for blockages and remedying as necessary
- Undertaking routine and minor repairs, including patching, painting, cleaning and maintenance of the facilities
- Attend to small building projects and painting
- Supporting the College in relocating furniture and equipment as required
- Set up and pack up of rooms within required timeframes for assemblies, exams, meetings and other College events
- Liaise with cleaning contractors
- Maintain and order stock of cleaning supplies as required
- Follow College processes for incurring expenditure for matters related to the role
- Assist with the security of equipment and buildings
- Other relevant duties as directed by the Principal
