As Evaluation Officer (qualitative focus), you will play a key role in supporting evaluation projects within the Victorian Government (Department of Health and Department of Families, Fairness, and Housing).

Your primary responsibilities will involve assisting with the design and implementation of evaluations, using various methodologies to contribute to the development of recommendations that align with government priorities.

In this role, you will focus on contributing to the completion of projects, managing your tasks efficiently, and integrating feedback to continuously improve your work. Your efforts will support the strategic and operational goals of the Victorian Government.

About you:

Monitor program effectiveness: Participate in evaluations of key programs, policies, and services to assess their effectiveness, efficiency, and impact.
Assist with qualitative research activities: Support the collection of qualitative data through interviews, focus groups, workshops and observational approaches, working closely with more experienced team members.
Support qualitative data analysis: Assist in thematic analysis and synthesis with supervision from other team members. Including taking detailed notes in consultations, accurately summarising and identifying key themes, and selecting representative quotes for inclusion in reports.
Use analytical tools: Apply foundational knowledge of tools such as coding software (e.g. R), Excel modelling, database software (e.g. SQL) and visualisation software (e.g. Excel, PowerBI) to support data analysis and visualisation tasks.
Contribute to report production: Assist in producing reports that integrate quantitative and qualitative data for a holistic view, with direction from more experienced colleagues.
Undertake project management: Support monitoring and coordinating project activities under supervision to ensure they stay on track, to time and budget.

Qualification/ Specialist Expertise

Tertiary qualifications in public health, evaluation, , psychology, health and social sciences, public policy, or another discipline with a strong evaluative and strong qualitative research methods focus component would be desirable.
Applicants with a tertiary qualification in other fields but with work experience in the above fields and experience in qualitative evaluation techniques would also be considered suitable.
Experience and expertise in program or policy evaluation.
Experience in financial modelling, economic evaluation and/or cost-benefit analysis.
