The Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Alcohol and Other Drugs service offers free, non-judgmental services and treatments for drug and/or alcohol use, including information and support for families. Our service offers specialist drug and alcohol doctors, nurses and allied health staff who respect the client's right to choose from a range of treatments offered with our services underpinned by a philosophy of harm reduction.

Are you a passionate and experienced Social Worker looking for a meaningful role where you can create lasting positive change for parents, babies and families? Join the Substance Use in Pregnancy and Parenting Service (SUPPS), a highly specialised and collaborative service supporting women and families experiencing complex substance use challenges throughout pregnancy and early parenthood.

As the Senior Social Worker within SUPPS, you will play a pivotal role in supporting women and families through some of the most challenging and rewarding stages of their lives. You will provide specialist counselling, comprehensive case management, and ongoing support to pregnant women and parents of young children who are experiencing issues related to alcohol and other drug use. Working within a community-based setting, you will build strong therapeutic relationships, advocate for your clients, and help improve health, social and developmental outcomes for both parents and children.

What you will bring to the role

Tertiary qualifications and professional registration/membership as follows: Degree in Social Work from an accredited course providing eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers Social Work (AASW)

Demonstrated post-graduate clinical experience in Drug and Alcohol Counselling/Case management as well as in an area such as child protection, domestic violence and/or family relationship issues

Demonstrated experience with using advanced reasoning skills including the preparation of high-quality written documentation and oral reports, comprehensive care plans and clinical handovers

Demonstrated knowledge and extensive experience in the provision of evidence-based psychosocial interventions for addressing family violence, child abuse or neglect issues and/or harmful patterns of parental substance use. This includes experience in delivering psychosocial interventions that involve the monitoring of clinical outcomes and responding to and escalating risk factors for child protection issues

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in maintaining professional boundaries and ethical practice when working with families and other service providers in a complex clinical environment.

Demonstrated extensive experience in partnering with parents and families to address child protection and well-being issues including reducing the risks associated with harmful patterns of parental substance use

Demonstrated experience in the timely documentation, communication and escalation of significant concerns to medical and other health specialists and/or line managers

Current Driver's License and willingness to use for work purpose travel.
